Charlie West started construction summer 2018, and won't be done until at least March 2022. The square didn't start until summer 2020. Charlie West was 10+ floors up when they started the square.
And it's far more than just a repaving, as you will know if you have been observing the construction progress.

I think the particular delay for this project had to do with some of the mechanical equipment. Odds are, somewhere in that equipment is a microchip that is in short supply.
Free transit rides for kids in Guelph means better access to services, mayor says

Quote:"It introduces it to them now, they get used to it, they become long term users of transit and that helps not only families and maybe the bottom line with costs, [but] it also teaches them how useful the transit system can be and it also talks about climate change mitigation."

Mayor Guthrie gets it. I had a bit of back and forth with one of our Regional Councillors the other year when they voted to remove the children's discount. The councillor wouldn't acknowledge the argument that making it easier for parents to make transit part of their kids' lives is positive for building future ridership, and just kept repeating that not that many families would be impacted by the fare hike as not that many kids take transit.
If that were the case, then the budget wouldn't be impacted by making those rides free.
There's still an impact even if it's very few. But it is sort of circular logic to say we need to remove the child discount (which we now have in Waterloo) to save money, but it's okay because only a few children took advantage of the discount.

Most likely they also needed to rebuild/replace the refrigeration plant. Lots more to it than meets the eye.

Cool! Good to see Dan from here defending it. On reading one of the tweets my thought was “a minute here, a minute there, soon you’re saving some real time!”.
Lol...I may have gotten carried away.

It's been a rough day...

But yeah, from someone who claims to ride the bus to oppose improvements to transit based on the fact that drivers are bad at driving was kind of bizarre.
The University of Waterloo Station bus terminal will (partially) open on Jan 3; only the eastern end closest to Phillip Street will be up and running right away. Connections to Ion trains (or GO buses, which are still on Ring Road for now) will need a bit of a walk. This will also introduce the new Route 30; its only purpose is to serve the full loop of the Ring Road, which no other routes will take anymore.

Is Route 30 going to use full-sized buses?
Based on the route. My guess is that the buses will come from another route, transition to 30 to go around the loop, and then change back once it's used ring road to turn around.
Yes, it'll interline with the 19.

The 15-30min headways for that Route 30 services are hilariously bad, considering the range it covers and being only one way around Ring Rd. I don't think there is much on the route that it serves that isn't <15min walk from the bus terminal anyways, but I guess if you time it right you might save yourself a few minutes.
