Still think that intersection screams for a scramble
On Stanley Park Mall, the buses all stop near the Holborn exit, so there are typically a lot more pedestrians in that area.
Top downtown location (King/Queen) is only #9, and uptown doesn't even make the list. Slower speeds and only one lane in each direction.

Oh, and yes, less traffic due to LRT construction in 2016. Smile

True, but there's a crosswalk right there. I'm inclined to think this would have more to do with people crossing at the trail.

Not just the pedestrians there, but that exit from the Walmart half of the parking lot has a lot of people quickly checking in the direction of the lights for oncoming before peeling out.
Although I have to suspect that a number of them are also related to their number of apartment buildings right across the intersection along Holborn - I've had a couple close calls with a few people running out between the buildings on the NE corner (presumably) trying to catch a bus.
I know that intersection well. It definitely has its problems - two shopping centres, kitty-corner around with high density housing (townhomes one side, high-rise apartments another). Lots of pedestrian traffic, but then an intersection of two arterial roads (with right-turn slip roads all around! no waiting!) makes for easy conflict if a pedestrian isn't willing to walk all the way to the light to cross.

Huh Ah, KW, the perfect home for the directionally challenged.
Here's the intersection.
The accident happened on Ottawa, on the west side of the intersection.
I'm guessing the person was crossing the street roughly where the mall frontage is.

Next weekend, not this one!
That's what I get for posting after Midnight! Fixed it, thanks.
Well, this is kind of an interesting (and unfortunate) situation...

The most ridiculous bit was the railway company questioning whether it’s legal to cross there. Guess what guys, it’s the sidewalk on a road which crosses the tracks. It can’t (reasonably) be legal for the road crossing to be legal but the sidewalk crossing to be illegal. Basically, they’re questioning whether it’s legal to cross the tracks at a designated level crossing with lights, which is absurd on its face. Also, more double standard — note that the road part of the crossing is basically fine, if not the smoothest crossing in the city. Only the sidewalk is a problem.
Is there a non-video link? It wants me to install Flash, and doesn't even offer a headline to clue me in to what is going on.
/\ Yeah. I can't ever play CTV videos with sound. Get video, but no audio. CBC, no problem.

I stay committed to my Blackberry. Smile
