Yes, once in a while. I remember being annoyed that you could die by running up behind a car and catching up to it.
So I came across this in my neighbourhood today.

Shouldn't this be done with the excavated dirt on the boulevard? How in the world do they get away with blocking the sidewalk? This is a pretty busy area - lots of families have their kids walk along here on the way to school.
/\ It does often seem that pedestrians are at the bottom of the transportation food chain. Sad

Putting the excavated dirt on the boulevard would kill the grass.
They've already (presumably) killed the grass where the hole is dug. May as well fix the whole thing when they're done.
@panamaniac only if left for an extended period of time. Regardless. Still not justified.
Yeah, but Kevin - they put an orange cone there! Big Grin
Maybe they were short of sod.
Just in case:

Wink
I'd like to point out that the pedestrian signals at Willis and King still do not function usefully despite being brought to the attention of appropriate staff/councillors months ago (I haven't checked if the one at Allen and King has been fixed).

Had this been a problem with a traffic signal affecting vehicles a crew would have been dispatched the moment the problem was noticed and resolved within the hour.

They still need the button to be pushed? I agree that is about as inappropriate a location for needing to press the button as I can think of in the Region.

On the plus side, has anybody else noticed that a lot of buttons have gained a “person walking with stick” icon? Erb and Caroline, in particular, I think has recently gained those. So it looks as if the buttons that are just to activate the audible indicators are getting their proper labelling. Now if we can just get the rest of the high-(pedestrian)-traffic crossings to work the same way…
A sidewalk is being installed on the W side of Westmount Rd S, roughly between Union and John. About time they did that!

Some fairly comical and self-contradictory objections from property owners:

Also some interesting history about why that particular stretch does not have sidewalks.

Maybe some new allies in the fight for sidewalk plowing?
Quote:As well, "we have no intention of shovelling the sidewalk ourselves."

LOL, until bylaw starts fining them and adding clearing costs to their property taxes.

I love people like this.
I spoke at council to that item. I am glad it is actually going in. By the sounds of the residents it is the end of a decades long fight to keep the road dangerous for pedestrians.
