Yeah, it should have been a MUT. It should have been 2 MUTs, one on each side.

That road is fast, and there are a lot of heavy trucks going to the various industrial businesses. It is not a pleasant place to be cycling right next to traffic. Given how spread out destinations are, there is going to be nearly inconsequential pedestrian traffic, and I don't see a shared path being a problem at all.
I was checking out the Ottawa St. North reconstruction today. They have the new sidewalk poured, and this pole is right in the middle of the new sidewalk, lol
Why not just get rid of it or I hope they move it more east of the sidewalk. https://www.google.ca/maps/@43.4498649,-...312!8i6656
So I just got back from biking through the Shirley Ave. redo. At 10:30 this morning there was what I would call above average traffic than before the realignment but in no way what I would consider busy. Yes it appears that there will be a sidewalk all along the Bingemans side where there was previously none. Although not fully paved or marked, there will be bike lanes on both sides that appeared to be fairly wide. More than comfortable for me who chooses to primarily ride on MUTs, and avoids roads whenever possible. And speaking of MUTs, there already exists a beautiful MUT that runs all along the Grand River through Bingemans from River Bend Dr. to Victoria St. I saw no pedestrians or cyclists on Shirley but at least 6 other cyclists and more than a dozen walkers on the MUT.

So frustrating, they should be setting a good example for the people around them.

Technical answer: Yes, they are exempted from the law if being used for actual official business. Each cruiser has a cell phone, and it is used for communication between officers and dispatch when the radio isn't appropriate or to keep the air clear for other reasons.

Where I work, I am also exempted from the handsfree law, and my employer only recently added Bluetooth devices, but most times they fail to work. So I will be in a marked vehicle speaking to my supervisor, knowing full well how horrible the optics are for members of the public.

Honest answer: If s/he were using a personal cell phone, then yes I agree it needs to be dealt with.

Coke

[Although in fairness, I am guilty in my personal life of texting at stop lights, even though it could warrant a ticket. When the vehicle is in motion, phone is away]
The Grand River Trail through there will be closed during the construction of the new highway bridges.

That's awfully square. In Dinan, France I've seen square intersections with squares filling in the corners, if that makes any sense. It was kind of weird.

I really feel badly for the business between the Ion tracks and Erb having to endure years of construction. I hope they can survive a few more months.

Here is one of the latest access challenges from the last few weeks near Famoso Pizza:

Not sure how anyone with a wheelchair, scooter, a stroller, or even broad shoulders is expected to fit through there.
Maybe they’re not supposed to fit through there? What’s the situation on the right? Aren’t the sidewalks supposed to be super-wide, here?
It is extremely disappointing how poorly placed so many of the elements from the LRT are. They would never have put a box or pole in the middle of the road, and yet it seems little to no effort was made to keep them out of the middle of the sidewalk.

The situation is that they are in the process of rebuilding the new King St streetscape, but some of the utility boxes that were placed last year from Ion construction are limiting the available detours because of their placement in the middle of the existing/future sidewalk.

I already mentioned this misplaced utility box a year ago in the Ion thread.

I think you mean Famoso Pizzer.
The second layer has been added some places in uptown, apparently the bike lanes will be concrete in some places.

Are there plans to paint it something more distinctive than brown? For instance lime green to match the bike boxes and sharrows or red as in other cities?

I personally find the paint slippery with the slightest bit of moisture so I am ok if it stays brown (assuming the brown is part of the concrete mix and not painted on after).
