Some parking will have to remain to serve them, and with the creek underground there it's going to be hard to dig.

The empty land on shade st I think is brownfield and that is what is keeping it from being developed, it hasn't been touched in a long time.
I expect they would still have to give up a sizeable portion to floodplain control. The piddly little creek behind the lot next to Swiss Chalet and Milestones on Hespeler Road has blocked development for the same reason: they'd have to give up so much land for flood protection that development isn't worth the expense.

Is that why that hasn't been developed? What flood protection is needed? like a storm water mgmt pond to make up for a possible buildings footprint? Seems so weird since it is so insignificant.
That was the reason the developer gave a few years ago in a Cambridge Times article. Do you think I can find it now, though?

I suspect that the flood management rules have probably gotten more strict since the rest of the properties on the creek have been developed.
It could be a "tragedy of the commons" type of thing. All those developments in the area with poor storm-water management increase pressure on the creek to handle larger peak volumes of runoff. The creek needs to handle more, so the flood protection controls required around the creek are strengthened. Thus, the lone undeveloped parcel is stuck with extra flood protection requirements to make up for dozens of properties that did nothing.

Mother's Pizza on Weber, a.k.a. the former Benny's, has opened! Opening day was monday.
I noticed on momandhops.ca brewery listing that there is another planned brewery in Kitchener named the Berlin Brewery. I'm wondering if the space next to the Berlin that's being renovated may be home to this new brewery and connected to the Berlin.

Rather than post this in themuseum's thread, I'll mention it here - themuseum is hosting "Pickledfest" on Saturday, October 15th, starting at 1900hrs.  A celebration of local, pickled foods prepared by Downtown restaurants, along with samples local beers.  The $35 admission includes entry to "Quantum - The Exhibition" (   http://www.therecord.com/news-story/6905...it-seems-/   ).

Mary Brown's opening up in the old Coffee Time location at Forest Glen Plaza.

According to the Record a St. Louis Bar and Grill will be opening on October 24 in Cambridge.
Also in that article there is a mention that a middle eastern restaurant called Babylon Restaurant and Lounge is replacing the closed Mercato Italian Grill at 200 King St E.
Holy Guacamole has added another new store on King Street East at Sportsworld in what used to be a Quizno's.
