The LCBO on King St W is now open! A very nice, bright space. Not large, with no proper Vintages area (just a Vintages Essentials shelf) but it does have a large beer cooler, to supplement the selection at the Beer Store, half a block away.
Building looks as expected for LCBO, but fits nicely into the streetscape. I believe there will be planters added to the open area next to it.
Definitely recognizable as an LCBO store.

Indeed. I declined the free bag, I still have my classic LCBO canvas bag with four bottle compartments.

I was just in here grabbing a six pack recently and was very surprised at how small the store is. When the building was under construction, I pictured something like Rideau Street in Ottawa with multiple floors. This location is more like an 'LCBO Lite' than anything.
I personally really dislike the new LCBO Building. My reasons are as follows:
1) It breaks the street wall
2) Adds no new density
3) Average at best architecture
The store it replaced was small.

Right. The new store is still small, but it does have a better selection, including a walk-in beer cooler. I was disappointed by the lack of a vintages corner but I'm still happy with an urban store. Maybe some day, when the business merits it, they can expand upstairs.
In the meantime, I'm OK with ordering vintages online and picking them up at the DTK store. It may take a week or so, but I usually plan ahead and keep a small inventory at home.
I have to agree, I'm not super impressed with the LCBO in general.
It's much smaller than I expected. The interior seems somehow more spartan and less pleasant than other LCBOs I've seen, I am not sure why.
The building itself does not even use the whole footprint, and the extra space that is left seems to have no use (although this *could* change), and the area could have seen higher density.
Nothing really wrong with it, just seems like it could have been much better.
Especially with how big of a footprint the uptown location is

That's a far bigger building, though: there simply isn't as much space available in the DTK location. (Maybe if we didn't need parking, but that's not an option today …)

"Simply isn't an option"...I don't see why not. There are many other nearby (new and large) LCBOs that are available with substantial parking for those who want to park near the front door of the LCBO. The one located in DTK probably could survive without it's own parking, given that DTK has plenty of parking for those who want to come here, and also tons and tons of people living here who could just walk in, not to mention transit access.
That being said, there's got to be other reasons, this LCBO doesn't even take up the full site. It could have been 20-30% bigger with the same parking and only losing a seemingly pointless interlocking brick empty space.
