Quote:OTOH Ikea execs might think that Burlington is close enough.

Evidently they've never driven between K-W and Burlington, especially during rush hours.

Whenever we go, we always go to the Burlington one. I like the drive. There are tons of awesome backroads between here and there, so we rarely take the same route twice.
Depending on where in London the new location is, it's still faster to go to Burlington
A sign has gone up at 22 Ontario St N (formerly Fine Feathers) for "Black Arrow Cycles".  It puzzles me that some retail shops close downtown and are replaced in a matter of weeks, while other storefronts sit empty for years.  Always good to see a new business Downtown, however.

New bicycle shop now open.  Some nice vintage-stlye comfort bikes (Linus) among others.  Accessories and service also.  Young owner is named Jesse and he seems like a good, knowledgeable fellow.
There appears that a Dollarama is going into the Sunrise Centre where the old Sears Home store was. Its only a guess but the area was painted with that distinct green!
I know Jesse from back in the day from Critical Mass, as well as his volunteer work at recycle cycle. Now that it sounds like we've got something in town with a Bikes on Wheels/Urbane vibe, i'll definitely check it out!
Yep, we finally have our first Expensive Hipster Bike Store.

Black's Photography closing all stores, 59 in total with 485 staff amongst them. There are two locations in Waterloo Region, one at Sunrise and the other at Conestoga Mall.
Retails chains have been dropping like flies this past year.
How many stores has Sunrise lost in the last 2 years?
Laura
Future Shop
Sears Appliances
Blacks

Anything else?
Reitmans
Peggy's
Benix
The Source

But the shopping centre is 10 years old this year ... so maybe its just lease turnover.
Linens n' Things would be another that closed it's doors at Sunrise.

Is the Petcetera or whatever pet store it was still there?

It's still a pet store but the chain has changed.
I overheard an employee at Mark's at Westmount Place saying that location will be closing mid September.

Good time to knock that part of the mall down, replace with condo or office with ground retail.  Does Sun Life own that space, or are they leasing from someone?
