Looks like Sport Chek will be opening a 30 000 sq ft store in the old Target space at Conestoga Mall. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr"><a href="https://twitter.com/TheFortisGroup?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@TheFortisGroup</a>  is getting ready to start our first 30,000 square foot interior fit up project <a href="https://twitter.com/SportChek?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@SportChek</a> for FGL Sports in <a href="https://twitter.com/ConestogaMall?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@ConestogaMall</a> in @Waterloo. <a href="https://t.co/gblzHxtWTC">pic.twitter.com/gblzHxtWTC</a></p>&mdash; Fortis Group (@TheFortisGroup) <a href="https://twitter.com/TheFortisGroup/status/923916705323274240?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">October 27, 2017</a></blockquote>

disappointing...

can you elaborate?
Makes sense for them to be on one floor, they don't have much staff on the 2nd floor. I wonder how much is from pressure from the mall since the second floor area is close to the sears 2nd floor space, not sure what is in between them, dumpsters, maybe some mechanical. Could be community rooms that they envisioned for a sports
multiplex
Is this an expansion or a relocation?
Relocation Conestoga Mall not Cambridge Centre!
Oh my bad, I was just there, so I had cambridge centre on my mind. makes sense, gives the end points of the mall tenants, their current space is easier to change into something smaller.
So not disappointing after all?

They are really just moving from one part of Conestoga Mall to a new space.

IMO, SportChek are attempting to upgrade on size to better compete with newer SAIL or MEC stores although they don't seem to have the same complimentary products market.
There's a very specific divide between 'outdoors' and 'organized sport'. I haven't seen anything from SportChek indicating they have any aspirations to the former.

I'm not sure what the relationship between Atmosphere and SportChek is, but it exists, and Atmosphere is how SportChek tries to inhabit the 'outdoors' space.

SportChek and MEC certainly overlap in outdoor clothing and shoes.  Equipment, not so much.
Fair enough, I was being a bit too specific in my categorization. You still won't find hockey pads at MEC, or camp stoves at SportChek.

It's true that MEC has been going for the casual outdoors wear market as well, and people worldwide are now wearing gear in the city more often than they used to, but it still isn't quite the same sorts of gear (although there is overlap).
Given the size of the new location, I wouldn't be surprised to see it as a combo Sportchek/Atmosphere store. Anything will be an upgrade on the current space, it is quite shabby as far as Sportchek goes.
