That'll look very odd.  I wonder for how long it'll be there.

Finally, with a lot of incentives someone stepped in, but unfortunately it was too late. So many years of neglect had taken its toll. In terms of redefining downtown, while the Huether would be sorely missed if it were to be gone (knock on wood), I don't think it would make much of a difference in the long run. There are so many bars, coffee shops and breweries already.

Don't forget that Downtown still has the Walper.  The old hotel building at King and Queen (I've forgotten - was it the American Hotel?) also has lots of potential, although I worry that it too might succumb to "demolition by neglect" - the mess at the end that had the fire is not looking very promising.

I think as the Walper undergoes it's renovation, and now with Social being there, that this will become a bit of a hot spot

Isn't it being done by Revel group, the same ones that left a mess on David Street, illegally painted the heritage houses on Weber Street, and have gotten into a bunch of other disputes with the city? I'm not sure I trust them to maintain a heritage building.

I'm beginning to get in the same boat.  I was a huge supporter of theirs early on with some of their projects, but it just seems like issue after issue lately.

I keep clicking thinking there actually might be something about the Mayfair..... alas.

They have been filling in the hole of the Mayfair's foundation this week.  Smile

I think that once the demolition fencing comes down, this thread should die for a few years until there's a proposal for the site.

The original conversation has been moved.  This conversation originated with comments about the Mayfair.  It stays.
Keep your eyes open for something happening at the Mayfair site this weekend... it will be interesting Wink

Adjacent domino building condemned?
Now that the Mayfair is gone, I wonder what will be done to clean up the wall attached to Weber Chambers?  My understanding is that Webers top floor rests on top of the eastern wall of the former Hymen Building such that it is unlikely that that bit of the old structure can be removed.  Huge stucco or cinderblock wall to look forward to?
The "Help Me" that was painted on the interior wall (now exposed) is a nice touch. Was downtown last evening for the FeFe Dobson show and I had to snicker at that gem.
I also noticed a large Mortal Kombat sign on the wall as well.
So the Mayfair is now a memory, the hole has been filled in, and renovation work has resumed on the apartments next door. Does anyone know why Young St is still closed to traffic?
The facade of the next-door building was being painted this morning, in a dark gray colour. Looked good, sorry for the lack of photos.
