Can't agree more. Whenever I go dt it's almost exclusively for the bookshops. A second look in particular, the guys who run it are really nice, knowledgeable and always talking people up.
I really like the book stores too.

My prediction, Tim Hortons. It's got to be a coffee shop.

Remember the original proposal? How the Charcoal Group was going to put two separate restaurants in? One on the main floor and then a rooftop bar?

I believe Tim Hortons is going in the American Block building so I'd be surprised they're adding one here as well.
Oh true, you're right.

Well there's a Shoppers on the other side of City Hall, so rule that out. Hmmm other generic, unexciting retailers...

Yah but that’s on the other side of King St. You cannot seriously expect a coffee addict to cross the street before getting their fix! Tongue
How about a stand-alone McCafe lol
Is that a thing?
In a few places, yes.

Or, a McDonalds. The one up the street is shut, and nothing really close to DT. Unless there is still one at Market Square.
Market Square McD's has been closed for years.

I forgot about those. A Second Look is great to browse through. They often have an interesting philosophy section.

Same. I can't remember the last time I bought something downtown that was not edible. Yet downtown Kitchener is just not a place you go to shop for anything but food, which is a real shame. But it's hard to attract interesting retailers to a downtown in a mid sized city.

Not that we don't need more retailers, but for non-food/non-drink we do have:
  • Banks
  • Barber shops and salons
  • Bicycles
  • Cannabis (soon)
  • Cosmetics
  • Eyeglasses
  • Pawn shops
  • Pedicure/manicure
  • Pharmacies
  • Shoes
  • Stag shop
  • Video games
  • Vintage clothing
And more, I'm sure.
Those exist, but I think they're pretty standard businesses that exist in any area of a city. Apart from the used bookstores, vintage clothing stores and maybe old video games you can get most of that in whatever part of the city you live in, so there's still no real strong incentive for people to go shop downtown who live elsewhere. If you live down there, then you're covered for necessities. Though even the ability to do groceries is minimal, depending on shopping habits.

It's the "generic, unexciting" retailers that show how Downtown viability is growing, though, when they want to move in.
You're absolutely right. These chains wouldn't move to DTK if it wasn't viable.
