The former Old Kitchen Cupboard in Belmont Village is now officially open as Chelsea Market, with new owners and an expanded range of organic foods. They are going to be open until 8pm on Monday - Friday and will have an on-line shopping site for pick-up or delivery. Belmont Village continues to improve.

It is awesome for fresh meats, sausages and deli cuts. They will cut anything you want in all fresh meats. There is also a seafood outlet from Caudel's there.

Basic veggies and lots of fresh breads including many European varieties. A small supply of Euro types mustard, pickles and so on. It is a small footprint store.

Great sausages and varieties for barbeque season.

Your post induced me to go check out Victoria Street Market this afternoon and I must say I was impressed.  Wonderful meats and more specialty grocery items than I had expected.  Lot's of local foods too - the Anna Mae's pies looked deadly good ( http://www.annamaes.ca/pies.html  ) and I discovered products from National Pasta of Cambridge, which was new to me.  I will certainly be going back!
I think Anna Mae's French Rhubarb is my favourite. Always stopped there in Millbank on our way up to the trailer. Didn't know they were sold there!
According to their website, they are also available at Herles and at Stemmlers.
Speaking of Anna Mae's, (though they aren't in Waterloo Region), they are undergoing a pretty significant renovation at the moment.

While this is true, if you draw lines from Milverton to Drayton to Elora, you're in the "sort of honorary Waterloo County" hinterland and Milbank is inside the line, so it's all good!  Smile
Work is well underway on the former Sobeys location at Northfield and Weber, the building is being stripped down to nearly the steel frame.

I thought someone mentioned that this could be the home to a new Fresh Co?
Fresh Co is owned by Sobey's, though. Surely Sobey's wouldn't locate them right across from each other.
I understood that Sobey's maintained their ownership of that building so a new competitor couldn't move in. I wonder if Sobey's is following the strategy of Labatt and is tearing down their building.
New City Supermarket seems to be doing well - their rear parking lot facing Market Lane has had its asphalt torn up, and just today replaced with concrete.

On Saturdays there is usally a line up of cars waiting to pick up someone who is checking out with groceries, moreso when it is raining
Or just waiting 20 minutes to find a parking spot that is a 5 minute closer walk :/. It gets me irrationally angry walking along there to the market.
New here, but wanted to resurrect an older post about T&T grocery store. Seems like new rumours of it being at the Westmount Place near Westmount and Erb. I don't particularly know how trustworthy the source is, but have heard it from a few times in the chinese community. This was the only post I could find on it (I don't frequent these forums).

Just a heads up, you'll need google to translate the page for you. But the gist of it says Loblaws outbid rivals for a lease in the plaza, and is expecting to put a T&T there.

I'm curious if anyone else have heard this rumour?
Welcome to WRConnected, lyrico!

Given the significant east Asian student and faculty population at UW, I think this would be a far more attractive location for T&T than Ottawa St.
That Plaza used to home to a Mr Grocer, which was a Loblaw Banner. Maybe they will be returning a banner to their previous space?
