Super exciting for Uptown Waterloo!  Great infill project.  Look at the connection with the Regional Public Health Building and 80 King St. S.  Smile
A bridge, cool.

It would definitely beat that parking lot on Willis.
Very neat. I wonder if they'd try to use any of the parking in the neighbouring structure to help their residents? Would be an interesting way to build only as much parking as you need, but have a ready supply right next door if more was needed (hey, add another bridge there too). Now, how long before George St. residents start complaining?
I like the bottom part but Overall im not really digging the design at all. It's pretty hideous...
It looks like a building that was built in the 1970's
This is on the corner across Willis Way from the RBC right? What businesses are there that will lose their space?
Not meant to sound like I'm against this proposal. I am most certainly all for it at this point. Just curious.
I think the original business could probably continue to operate in the space as they plan to add two additional floors to get existing building.

Very interesting proposal, hopefully it will be approved, exciting times.
I dig it. I wonder if the finish is made of metal and that's why it looks funny in the rendering?
The podium is easily the best looking parking garage on Willis Way, if not the region.

Will be interesting if the region is interested or wants that bridge connection made to their building.

I guess that explains all the geotechnical work I've seen there over the last year!

I was wondering about that. I have a theory that maybe the Region wants to make a deal for parking, in which case the bridge would make a lot of sense.
If this is built, would the existing parking garage uptown remain as well?
Yes, the exisiting parkade isn't going anywhere any time soon.

In scrolling through the documents I noticed the "safe access route" which I interpret as emergency exit plan.

It seems very convoluted.

Residents would travel to the top of the parking podium (P5), enter at floor 6 at the north end of the public health building via the bridge, walk the length of the building, descend to floor two, find their way around the rotunda to another newly constructed bridge/stairwell, descended to the ground level exiting at the south end of the public health building:

Edit: Upon further reading this route is only for flooding related to a "regional storm is a storm with the equivalent magnitude of Hurricane Hazel (1954)." Residents require a passage out of their building, through floodwaters that are no deeper than 0.8 metres below the Regional Flood Elevation which is 324.30m at the site. The route gets them to essentially the Marbles patio which is at 323.50m or exactly the 0.8m needed.

Noticed that the design was done by Quadrangle Architects the same Company that designed City Centre.

Disappointing. Building an entire bridge and then using it *only* for emergency access.

This city is terrible for taking opportunities to link buildings and provide covered or protected walkways. I’m looking at you, transit hub. Now here they are linking two otherwise unrelated buildings, but the only permitted use will be during an extremely rare flood event. It would not be the slightest bit surprising if it was literally never used before one or the other of the two buildings was demolished in the natural course of evolution of the city.
I mistyped. Only as in the only type of emergency the exit route would get used for is flood, not fire etc.

From my quick reading it would be used to regularly access the garage from 99Regina and vice versa. Access controlled (mag-lock, etc.).

Sorry for the confusion. Need to re-read my posts more carefully these days; causing more confusion than useful information!

According to the planning justification they already have an agreement with the region for the bridge. Page 26 has full detail and renders, apparently it involves constructing a new exterior staircase on the far side of the region's building, beside Marbles.
