Perhaps this thread title should be updated to read highway 8 through Townline.
Hey, did folks see this announcement via CBC? Seems like a good thing for our region.

"Cambridge MPP Kathryn McGarry announced the province's new cycling strategy and plans for the Franklin Boulevard bridge over Highway 401 on Monday morning.

"
I’ll get super excited once I see the drawings and plans! I could potentially use this on my bike commute from Kitchener to Cambridge, instead of going way east or way west.
Both wb bridges have had their concrete poured over the river. The CP bridge has rebar in place.

The new offramp lanes for 8 are paved and lines painted.

We may see some rearrangement soon.

As for the flyover, there's still a large pit where the left lane used to be. It's been the same for a few weeks now.
My hope is that when the WB lanes shift to the new ones, we finally (finally!!) get two continuous lanes exiting for 8.

A dream.
A quick update - the ramp from 401W to 8 has shifted over to the new section for a few days now.
Signs on the highway indicating the Franklin overpass is coming down tonight.
Oooo thanks! Full closure of 401 detouring from Townline to 24 should be a joy. Big Grin

Did they say what times?
Didn't catch it.
I think I saw from 8pm to 6:30am? I have maybe 25% confidence in that, though.

I drove out to cambridge this morning, got there around 8, all the crews were gone, absolutely no ones, and bridge is complete gone. Now the joys of getting back to Kitchener. I ended up going through the power centre, even with no traffic, it takes an extra 4 or 5 minutes; because you're driving slower, and you're almost always guaranteed to get a red light when going right onto Hespeler Road to get to the 401 Westbound.
Wait, what’s changed coming WB because of the bridge removal? How does that cause you need to go through Power Centre?

I have a client off of Franklyn Blvd. Normally I got over the Franklyn Bridge WB onto the 401.

Now I have two choices: Got east on Pinebush then turn left onto Townline then go WB onto 401 or I can go west on Pinebush towards Hespeler Rd, I cut through the power centre because there's a bridge going to Hespeler Rd right after you pass Staples. Going through the power centre should be faster and less milage than any other route.

I rarely ever see it happen to the extent that when I do see it happen, I feel a little miffed that they're blocking traffic. I've also seen a cop pull over a truck in the left-most lane before, but I don't know if that's why they were getting pulled over. I've never noticed signage to that effect, so I assume trucks are free to drive in any lane, but it's so unusual that I wonder if it's something truckers just know.

I am quite sure they are not allowed in the far left lane, when there are 3 lanes. Next time you are on the highway look at the bridges you go under. There is usually a sign above the left lane, affixed to a bridge, notifying trucks that are longer than 6.5m are not allowed. I drive pick up trucks that are CVOR and I am thinking I am not allowed in the left lane. So it may be commerical vehicles in general, but don't quote me on that one.
The hole on the flyover eb was being paved on Wednesday. Hopefully this means the second lane will reopen soon.
