There were similar mats used there. I think they put them on top of the rock being demolished to prevent small pieces from flying off. I’d be a bit surprised to find they need to do that in downtown Kitchener however — even the deep excavation for the QNC at the University of Waterloo didn’t get anywhere near bedrock.

There is definitely no bedrock. But they will be breaking through the concrete wall that is next to the blasting mats in the photo.

Yikes!

With dynamite? I would have expected either a pneumatic drill or a concrete saw.

It was once called 'Sandhills' for good reason.

Thanks for the updates on this one. There's a part of me that definitely never thought this project would happen.

This render was in the "ION Attracts" map posted on another thread.

Was by the site earlier, looks like they have the edges of the pit fully excavated but there's still a big pile of sand in the middle that needs to come out.

RE: Arrow Lofts phase II | 15 fl | U/C - Spokes - 09-18-2018

Hmm. Seems kinda block-ish. But very similar to what we saw years ago when it first came out. I'm surprised there are only balconies on the corners.

Anyone else reminded of the Regency on Weber/Queen with it's brick podium and stucco tower?

Shouldn't that.... have a significant grade to it? Or am I imagining that wrong?

Oh, you're right there should be a grade. I'm not sure how they rendered all this without that.

Finally getting ready to pour some concrete:

More tower cranes!!!

RE: Arrow Lofts phase II | 15 fl | U/C - tomh009 - 10-30-2018

Soon enough! I think we'll have a veritable forest of cranes in 2019.

RE: Arrow Lofts phase II | 15 fl | U/C - Spokes - 10-30-2018

I do too. We got away from our annual "How many Tower Cranes?" poll this year by accident, but it's coming back in 2019, because there's going to be a TON

Hopefully!
