Yeah, that was just disturbing.
I don't think it was mentioned in this article, but in another, one of the delegates was reported to have been in tears. And while I feel that someone moved to tears is really suffering, we need to be more willing, in our culture, to confront that, with compassion and kindness, to help that person understand why their fears are overblown, to help them see that the change is not scary for any other reason that it is change, rather than indulging them, with niceness, and coddling them.
I believe this applies far and wide in our culture, well beyond this particular scenario.
That being said, it appears council is moving forward, so I think we are making the right steps.
(Yes, I found Tenille's editorial to be rather on point).

To be fair there are fewer neighbours when you live in single detached housing. Pretty weak argument though.

Just wanted to draw some attention to the 162 Snyders project.
I just listened in to the community meeting and it was absurd. Everyone against the development outright, with no real reasons other than trying to "protect their town" (keep in mind this is a CMHC affordable housing development.
The top two highlights. 1) One lady saying their shouldn't be air conditioning in the building and 2) An old man saying he would rather look at a pasture than a building full of people (the lot is an empty former industrial use, not a pasture)
This madness needs to stop

It's a $22 million facility with Ontario providing $16 Million

How about this: make a big combined project which is a community centre, arena, and affordable housing.
If NIMBY people want to pass up an improved community centre, fine. Well, not fine, but maybe we need to tie things together. And why shouldn’t people in affordable housing have the convenience of having a community centre right in their building?

I know this is just outside of the region, but the crane base is now in at the Elora Mill Condos project.
Will be interesting to see how this one plays out as it will be the same developer as the Cambridge Mill Condos and Hotel.

Wilmot Council is looking at a proposal for a third village centre, midway between Baden and New Hamburg. It's coming as an MZO, however, so that carries a lot of baggage and some objection.
