RE: 27 Gaukel St - Redevelopment - panamaniac - 10-31-2017

I've been wondering about that as well - hoping that the original (buff?) brick is still intact and able to be uncovered.  It definitely wouldn't be done by sandblasting - if I'm not mistaken, the buff brick that one finds in this part of Ontario is fairly soft.

Unless they're just planning to repaint it .....  Is there a render somewhere of the finished project?

Also - these are just window frames - there's no glass in them yet.

As of this morning they are putting glass in (middle window).

On the Gaukel St side of the building they have started to remove the white paint from the building's exterior. It is looking pretty good so far.

Buff brick?

I'm staring at that side of the building right now and this is not true. There's a bit of exposed brick that was behind the Schreiter's sign, but that's been there since Schrieter's moved out and took their sign with them

My mistake then, I seen some exposed brick and just assumed it was in the process of being removed.

The windows look pretty good. Much work going on inside. No indication of what will happen with the exterior finish.

Exterior finish? it was recently re-painted white, so it will be white.

Hopefully nothing... it looks great!

Even the part behind the old signage that had exposed brick has been repainted white.

OK, that's a good indication that white it will be.

It does look good. Although I think a lot of people (I'm one of them) are curious what' under, and if it would look better.

It is a light-coloured brick. I would personally prefer that but I think removing all the white paint would be a fairly expensive and time-consuming project.

I would too. But I've been told by people not from around here that we "REALLY" love our brick here.
