It's not an Android port, it's an app built using web technologies which lets them build one app that runs on all of iOS/Android/BlackBerry/Windows Phone/etc. So it's not really a "native" app on any platform, but I'd say is definitely better than running an Android app. Well-done web apps can be quite good, the problem here is just that it's built by low quality devs.

GRT Customer Satisfaction Survey
http://www.grt.ca/en/aboutus/GRT-Customer-Satisfaction-Survey.asp

"Service improvement is essential to GRT's vision for an effective transit system. As part of our service improvement strategy, GRT is conducting customer satisfaction surveys to get feedback from those who currently use the various transit options provided by GRT. The feedback you provide on the surveys will help GRT offer better services, make more information available to customers, and help identify areas for improvement. Please complete the survey by January 31, 2015."

My gripe about that survey is that it forces you to distill your GRT experience down to 3 things:
1) Your most used Terminal
2) Your most used bus route
3) Your most used bus stop (they even ask forthe EasyGO number!)

I happen to use the 200 iXpress the most, as it is my work commute. I will happily concede that it is, more or less, great! The stops are kept clean. It's never more than 5 minutes late/early (because that's impossible at 10 minute frequencies).
But that being the gleaming star of GRT, I decided to pick the stop that I wait the most at, so they could get some honest feedback about problems in the system.

Gave it a bit of a whirl today, seems to work pretty well. Will have to see how well it responds to real-time delays, etc.

What a useless app. You press "Trip Planner" and all it does is open their webpage in your browser.

A lot of apps are just repackaged webpages.

Ya. And a lot of apps are useless crap. Smile

I just sideloaded Google Maps on my z10. Apart from bugging me to log into Google, the app works far better for transit directions than what GRT is offering. The suggestion dropdown gives relevant geospecific suggestions and will correct your spelling, which is very useful.

RE: Grand River Transit - timio - 01-08-2015

I find the Transit app to be quite useful.

A couple of nougats buried in the preliminary budget paper for GRT (http://www.regionofwaterloo.ca/en/regionalGovernment/resources/Preliminary_BIP_Package.pdf, page 9):
2014 GRT ridership is estimated to be 21.9million (a 0.2% decrease from 2013) mostly due to a significant reduction in high school pass sales
Ridership is still increased 132% since the establishment of GRT in 2000.

"The 10-year capital forecast needs to updated to reflect the resource requirements for passenger facilities in 2017 as described below:
-Completion of a dedicated transit road at the University of Waterloo that is integrated with the ION station
-Construction of a transit passenger facility integrated with the ION station at Fairview Park Mall and at Courtland Avenue and Block Line Road
-Construction of a transit passenger facility in east Kitchener to integrate the Ottawa iXpress, Highland/Victoria iXpress, and local bus routes
-Stations for Ottawa iXpress and extension of 203 Maple Grove iXpress, and transfer stops with ION.

Not sure if this is new or not, but GRT just tweeted it. I guess I didn't realize that until now they weren't permitted to use the shoulders - I've never seen a bus on them, but then again, the direction I travel along 8 in rush is lighter so I never see the backup.

GRT gets green light to use Bus Bypass Shoulder on Highway 8

RE: Grand River Transit - Waterlooer - 01-28-2015

I never knew there were so many rules to using the bus bypass shoulder.

Yes. They've been working on getting that approved for a few years now. I guess it finally went through.

RE: Grand River Transit - Viewfromthe42 - 01-29-2015

Now we just need a quick video of someone on such a bus, showing what it's like.

RE: Grand River Transit - timio - 01-29-2015

... to the iExpress!

RE: Grand River Transit - KevinL - 01-29-2015

GO buses have been using the shoulders since at least last fall.
