Halibut House, a Toronto based fish and chips restaurant, will be opening ‘soon’ in the Highland Hills Mall.  I love good fish and chips so I’m looking forward to this.

East Side Marios in university plaza is also a goner. Two businesses lost in that shopping centre to Covid.

Definitely not my favourite. Sucks for the workers though. But my quarrel is more with the landlords.

Not my favourite, either -- but how long were they there? 30 years or so, I think?

The business has changed in those 30 years, and not for the better.

Indeed.  It was mediocre when it started and went downhill from there.

They did always target the student population, and, as I recall it, they were quite popular early on.

Not my favourite, but kudos to them for the longevity.

FYI ESM was not a pandemic causality. The owner (Don) was retiring, and actually gave his staff the heads up before the pandemic even shut them down.

I had mentioned it in a different thread, but East Side was scheduled for closure before Covid. It wasn't the same as it was years ago, when they had decent food and a decent menu.

Just noticed the post above mine, from bgb_ca. Owner retired.

[Rimshot]

Does anyone have recommendations for Fish & Chips in the Stanley Park area of town?  There have always been options on Highland Rd, Westheights and two across the street from one another at University/Weber, but none close to me.

Coke

There's actually a popular restaurant in Bobcaygeon called "Just for the Halibut."

The Whale and Ale on Victoria street is doing take-out. I have had great fish and chips there but also not so great on occasion.
