I found it interesting that the Guelph building has been sold, but the Kitchener location will only be leased or sold "for the right price". Smart move on their part!

This week at Sunrise the former Future Shop store is having major work done inside, a skid steer was taking loads of gravel inside through a temporary shelter outside the old install bay doors. There was a large number of trades parked out front as well.

Rona is being sold to Lowes.

A win for the weak Canadian dollar!

Yes, was big news in the Quebec media yesterday. Canadian HQ staying in Montreal (Boucherville).

Quote: Mark Satov, business advisor and founder of Satov Consultants, says he suspects the plan long term will be to continue to operate Rona in Quebec, but convert stores in the rest of the country to Lowe's.

Definitely playing to the market.  Smart move.

I for one haven't been all that impressed with Rona when compared to the alternatives both in terms of prices, and some product offerings

I'm not sure about their pricing, but their service is not as good as that of their competitors in my experience. All of the big box home improvement stores pale in terms of service in comparison with the locals and Home Hardware, but Rona has seemed especially poor when I've gone there.

I agree.  And a lot of times a serious lack of product/skill knowledge.

It seems that the name will stay, just owned by an American company.  Kind of like HBC.

RE: General Retail News - jamincan - 02-07-2016

While it's majority owned by an American investment firm, HBC is still headquartered in Canada and traded on the TSX. That qualifies it as Canadian in my books.

RE: General Retail News - DHLawrence - 02-07-2016

Probably because HBC has a far more storied history than Lord and Taylor. Remains to be seen what will happen now that Saks is under their umbrella.

I wonder if the Rona in Cambridge will stay open. With a Lowe's across the street it doesn't strike me as an arrangement that can last. Look at Best Buy and Future Shop.

Rona's head office will stay in Boucherville, although as a fully-owned subsidiary, its stock won't trade anywhere.
