Plus the revolving door storefronts making it harder to keep up a steady presence of pedestrians. Everyone blames Cambridge Centre but it was like that before the mall was (re)built; everyone just went to Fairview instead.

Wasn't there a building somewhere on Weber st. DTK where a lot of squatters (and other questionable people) got "evicted" from? Not saying everyone in the building was a bad apple, but I recall an article somewhere.

Yes, that was one of the jewels of the Terry Good slum portfolio. But those people did not get kicked out of Kitchener, just cleared out of the building in which they were squatting.

So other city's problems are being diverted to Cambridge then? The amount of people he had to interact with grew substantially.

Do we know where they are now? Just because they were only kicked out of the building doesn't mean they stayed in Kitchener.

Doesn't mean they left either. I'm not aware of any change in services in either city that would have led to a shift of homeless from Kitchener to Cambridge, unless the ending of the Out of the Cold program had an impact.

The Out of the Cold programs in Kitchener-Waterloo were replaced by a shelter in Kitchener run by the Region, weren't they?
That's what happened in Cambridge with Bridges- the churches wound down their Out of the Cold services, for them to be replaced by Regional services there. A lot of the posts on those facebook groups seem to be indirectly blaming Bridges, but it's been around for more than a decade, and I don't think its services have been expanded, have they?

Didn't Bridges expand a couple of years ago? Perhaps I'm thinking of something else. In any event, such facilities are normally built to meet an existing demand, not in anticipation of new demand.

Agreed, and the effects of that crisis are very visible. Photos from that Facebook page such as the one with the guy passed out mid-afternoon with a needle in his arm paint a pretty grim reality.
