RE: Trails - Canard - 12-29-2017 So, there is a section of paved MUT that runs between Northfield and Conestoga, on King St: Red denotes a section which is dug up and is rough terrain. Green denotes the paved section. I can't quite recall the history here, but I believe during LRT construction this was never completed. I asked back in October and the Region failed to get back to me. I was by today, and the entire stretch was untouched - in some sections, knee-deep with snow.
Dave Jaworsky provided the following information:
Could this be expropriation-related? RE: Trails - plam - 12-29-2017 Yeah, I tried to take that a few weeks ago and decided the other side of the street was a better bet. But it's good to have MUTs on both sides of King there. And they make a big difference in the accessibility of that area to bicycles. RE: Trails - Canard - 12-29-2017 Aha, but that’s the problem! On the East side of King, it’s just a sidewalk then switches to a MUT South of Conestogo. But, on the West side (which is unfinished and unmaintained), it’s a MUT... which switches to a sidewalked signed as a MUT until the Conestoga Parkway. Tiny brushstrokes........ RE: Trails - timc - 12-29-2017 Not everyone loves MUTs. But incomplete trails suck. RE: Trails - Canard - 12-29-2017 I do! RE: Trails - timc - 12-29-2017 Actually, I should say that I do like MUTs, but I'm really not a huge fan of asphalt as a surface. No, you’re not snippy. You just expect stuff to happen as promised when promised even though those are unreasonable things to expect Seriously, I appreciate your nudging, and especially your persistence. Every bit of reminder to anyone watching that things are not as good as they should and could be is helpful. It’s been said that the reasonable person adapts themselves to the world, while the unreasonable person attempts to adapt the world to themselves. Therefore, all progress depends on unreasonable people. RE: Trails - Pheidippides - 12-31-2017 City of Kitchener trail projects planned for 2018: RE: Trails - tomh009 - 12-31-2017 Hmmm, I wonder what the route will be for the Mill to Queen connection? Will they just convert a sidewalk to a MUT, or something different? It's good that they are finally addressing the IHT at West Ave and Homewood. RE: Trails - jamincan - 12-31-2017 I'm not clear what the plan is for the connection under Hwy 7/8. Is the trail going to parallel the LRT ROW? I did my best guess as to what is being planned and mapped it out. Could the connection between Mill and Queen just extend the current trail north to Queen along Schneider Creek? It looks like there might be space behind the properties there? https://drive.google.com/open?id=1hsAVyTLm7_cxspI03JCXTCoFZ9EG7QxW&usp=sharing RE: Trails - KevinL - 12-31-2017 Pleased to see wayfinding standards coming in; I hope it parallels what Waterloo is using so crossing the city line doesn't get you lost. Also good to see progress on Block Line-Manitou, I hope it actually gets built in a good timeline. Which hydro corridor is the Bleams-Ottawa? In Laurentian West? I think you might be right -- it looks like there could be enough room there. That would be good, I'm there often! RE: Trails - Pheidippides - 12-31-2017 Most of them were mentioned in TriTag's 2017 list and seem to have the same assumptions. It will not be along the LRT, it will be along Courtland, there is a dirt path there now, that will be formalized into an asphalt path. They planned to build it this year, but between funding, the province, the city, the region, and GRCA it didn't happen. This is probably the most excusable of the dozen or so "failure to complete" situations this year. 2017 promised to be a most depressing year, with active transportation infra in the region being the one highlight (as per TriTAG's list), but it was not to be. RE: Trails - tomh009 - 01-01-2018 Courtland? Not between Mill St and Schneider Creek, then? I'm trying to think where there is a dirt path near Courtland but I can't envision it right now. |
