In its original condition it might have been heritage-worthy. But it would take a LOT of work to get back to that point.

Punch out the windows again, and put up a new aesthetic covering for the first floor, and I think that will go a long way to making it quite attractive.

I think it'll take rather more than that. And from the back it looks it was originally yellow brick, but there is a red-brick facade at the front?

I do agree that it can be made to look attractive. But not really heritage, and not cheap to make it attractive, either.

It's going to look pretty darn good IMO

Whoa! I can't wait for it to look like that!

Now I have something to imagine when I walk by its current sorry state every day - thanks!  Big Grin

If it looks close to that when finished it would be a very nice restoration, and I'd be very glad that it took place. Still, it's not a heritage building.

I thought it had been designated.

Sorry, what i meant is "not worthy of being designated a heritage building". The builder met with the heritage commission and agreed to certain provisos, but it is not formally considered heritage. It is listed in the Waterloo registry under "Non-designated properties of cultural heritage value or interest". Just the fact that it was once one of the 1,400+ branches of the Canadian legion can hardly be considered significant.

That looks pretty good!  Not cheap, but pretty good!  (Other than the huge surface parking lot, that is.)

That light armoured vehicle is being unloaded by crane at the Waterloo cenotaph this morning.

According to this article the building that houses 'Harmony Lunch ' has been conditionally sold.

And the line-ups are out the door for one final hamburger.  I took my nephew there yesterday for his first and final hamburger, making him the fourth if not fifth generation in our family to eat something there.  The last chance is Saturday (tomorrow)

I already ate there in the 80s so I feel no need to go now. Smile

I was going to take my dad there for his birthday today but when we saw the lineup we thought better of it and went to Frat Burger instead. It was a delicious decision as always. Big Grin

Looks like I will have to console myself with never having eaten there. Ah, well.
