Found it - it was a public consultation for the Queen St Streetscape Project:

The Queen Street corridor, between Duke and Charles Streets, is an important part of Kitchener's history and landscape, and will become an even more important link for pedestrians once the LRT is up and running.

As part of the city's capital improvement program, Queen Street is slated for resurfacing and Vogelsang Green is due for some improvements at the same time.
Before the required infrastructure upgrades begin, staff is taking the opportunity to look at the big picture to identify what the priorities are, and what work needs to be done, while considering how residents will use and interact with the space.

The two preliminary concepts being consulted can be found here:  http://kitchener.ca/en/insidecityhall/resources/Community-Engagement/161413466_Concepts_12.pdf

Curious what people think between the two concepts.  I think I like the first one better, with the water feature, but I like some of the lighting options for the laneways in particular from the second option.

Definitely #1. #2 isn't bad by any means but I really like the first one.

RE: General Urban Kitchener Updates and Rumours - REnerd - 06-02-2017

I prefer the first option.  Love the amphitheater park.  Don't love the modern style streetlights, would prefer what is currently there.

I think the string lighting would get old a bit quickly.

Both concepts don't disappoint....

I like the Queen Street plans, seems like the Walper's valet parking isn't in any of them anymore... that seems to cause a bit of a bottleneck in an already tight spot.

I just noticed today the "for sale" signs on that ugly pink house at the corner of Joseph and Queen... anyone know how long that's been for sale?

Maybe a month or so.

It badly needs to be gone, along with its two neighbours.

Hopefully someone does something neat with the cron r. I've been in and out of town a bunch so that's why I hadn't noticed the sign until yesterday.

I vote for number 1 as well

I don't have the PDF available right now, but the one with the string lights is nice. Or I should say, the string lights themselves. I've seen such things in person a lot and they give off such a nice atmosphere.

Does anyone know whatever happened to the plans for the vacant lot(s) at the corner of Weber and Scott street? I vaguely remember plans for a condo development there.

Edit: Nevermind...looks like the group that owns the land has purchased a bit more in the same area, expanding potential opportunities (according to The Record, the original plans were for a 6 floor rental building) According to this, they're still planning for rental units, albeit much larger: https://renx.ca/urbanfund-assembles-kitchener-property-for-apartments/

RE: General Urban Kitchener Updates and Rumours - Pheidippides - 06-07-2017

The vacant lot at the corner of Belmont and Union has been fenced off and has some machinery on site. Not sure if it is remediation work or sampling or other.

Also 474 Queen St S, beside Joseph Schneider Haus, has been boarded up.

Wonder if it's the same team that was doing core samples of the sold-for-quick-development parking lot between TD and 305 King?

RE: General Urban Kitchener Updates and Rumours - rangersfan - 06-07-2017

Has anyone heard any further news on the redevelopment of 225 King St W( empty lot across from city hall)?

I almost forgot about this project.

"Preliminary plans" is not a project.  Downtown tradition...
