I do not like those renders. They don't really communicate the changes well at all. I hope. It looks like they're turning it into an early open world PS2 game level.

The podium rework aside, it looks like they will be putting aluminium cladding on top of the existing brick, rather than doing a major rework. This makes sense also because I have been noticing brick deterioration on the building; the cladding will allow them to address those, and also improve the R-value of the exterior walls.

And that's in addition to the facelift.

Looks to me a paint job...kinda like the building at Westmount and Queen and the buildings at Westmount and Victoria.

That would be fantastic.  What's the current proposal there?  I feel like there's been so many I don't even know anymore.

This is the last article they had about this proposal  :  https://www.therecord.com/sports-story/2570191-kitchener-scott-street-development-project-approved/

I think that is the wrong development and property...

This is a newer article (from 2017) about development work at Weber and Scott streets: https://www.therecord.com/news-story/7190020-real-estate-deal-means-bigger-plans-for-downtown-kitchener-property/

It looks like it's the same developer adding onto what was discussed in the 2010 article?

No, my link is the development across Weber Street.   https://www.google.ca/maps/@43.4504106,-80.4841473,3a,37y,42.88h,89.38t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sswLtBuh3GjnClg63cw6-Dw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!5m2!1e4!1e1 This parking lot is where I saw them drilling.

It could be. But the shading on the render would suggest metal cladding.

What an odd thing to change it into, looks like a little isolated spaceship pod.

The pod out front is the former City Council chamber.  It will be good to see it opened up.

I'm cutocur to see more of their proposed changes. Tough to tell from those images but this could definitely use a facelift

Has anyone seen the ice at city hall open for skating?

So the project on Scott St talked about in this article last year seems to be gaining some momentum :
http://www.marketwired.com/press-release/urbanfund-corp-announces-acquisition-controlling-interest-downtown-kitchener-multi-residential-tsx-venture-ufc-2208881.htm

The following building permit has been submitted:
Permit is for a Conditional Permit for one level underground parking garage shell only for a new 11 storey mixed use building including site servicing and underslab plumbing.

One of the demolition permits was filed by SRM Architects so I assume that they were involved with the project's design.

It’s no wonder people are often confused about streets going east or west / north or south.
There’s a lovely sign on Frederick Street advising drivers that Weber southbound is closed at Cameron.  Weber runs east and west.  If the city can’t figure this out what are we supposed to do?    Huh
