Currently there is only a demolition permit. The property is still zoned commercial, I don't believe that allows use as a parking lot.

Is it just me or does that look like a complete wall covered with insulation and no longer window openings?

That way the office can run as normal while the windows go in is my take

I'd say it's a temporary wall, because of the gap to the outer wall.

I can't imagine they would spend all that money to put in what would be fake windows... it's clearly a temporary wall.

Here is a time-lapse video I took from my office showing most of the demolition of 26 College St/145 Duke St W.  I have a few pictures as well, if anyone's interested.

What I notice most is: is that supposed to be a Shoppers drug mart parking lot? Because it sure looks like a permanent employee parking lot from the images. If there's one group that makes sense to have parking a 5-10 minute walk from their destination, it's employees.

The parking lot is meant for Shoppers Drug Mart customers; however, many people use it as convenient downtown parking.

And parking there (and in Bell Lane) seems unenforced (shh, don't tell anyone....).  Great for some, but not so good if you need to pick up a prescription at Shoppers when there's an event on in City Hall Plaza.

So I was driving down King E today, past Cedar where a new mid-rise apartment building is proposed, iirc. The green space between the sidewalk and the (now unused) parking lot was planted with flowering crabapple trees many years ago. This spring, the trees are in the heaviest bloom that you can imagine and with a dozen or more of them in a straight row, it makes for a magnificent display. Unfortunately, I imagine the trees will need to go as part of any development on the site but, for the next few days at least, it's something well worth seeing.

I'll need to walk over and check it out -- thanks! Wink

Note the date - it was posted last year to much enthusiasm, but I think this plan fell through.

Yes, this former car dealership is now to become.... a car dealership.   Sometime in 2017, iirc.
