With the changes in the media landscape (and how advertising dollars are spent), we're far from alone in losing local TV content. Many places don't even have a repeater anymore. The transition to digital TV didn't help. Hamilton has had problems too:

Just months after the cuts at CKCO, there's an announcement from CTV that local news will be expanded - an extra hour, from 5 PM. http://www.bellmedia.ca/pr/press/ctv-news-announces-major-expansion-of-local-news-programming-with-all-new-weekday-newscasts-at-5-p-m-debuting-across-canada-this-fall/

/\ I only skimmed the article, so are they planning on having a two-hour news block from 5-7 PM?
Also, I saw no mention of reinstating local sports news, but like I said I only skimmed the article. Was there any mention of that?

It'll be a 5-7 news block, yes. No mention of sports coverage, expanded or no.

Figures. Makes me wonder what the heck they're going to fill another hour with.

Thank you

The cynical part of me thinks they'll just repeat an identical 1 hour block. So no extra production costs, but double the CanCon.

/\ If so, that's lame.

RE: General Arts and Culture News - DHLawrence - 06-09-2017

There *has* been local sports coverage in recent broadcasts; has the move been cancelled?

The 50th annual Kitchener-Waterloo Multicultural Festival is next weekend, June 24 -25.

I love this festival.  But truth be told, I go mainly to stuff my face with delicious foods from all over the world.

Food and music!  Sadly, I will miss it this year.

In case you missed it, Downtown Kitchener hosted the Summer Lights Festival last Saturday.  There was a pretty good turnout and the predicted stormy weather stayed away.
