Cleaning the soil? I was under the impression the soil was simply taken off site to be remediated, and new soil brought in. Do they process it on site instead?

I always assumed soil remediation happened on site, I would be interested to find out if it was possible to extract the existing soil, move it off site and backfill the site with fresh soil.
