The Hub has announced that 3 of their towers will not meed September occupancy.

Sage 2 was delayed in 2015. Also, the Record has a story about 1 Columbia move in delays dated September 2014: https://www.therecord.com/news-story/483...f-housing/
I'm not sure if they have mis-dated it, it if that makes 4 consecutive years of move in delays.

The universities have nothing to do with these private sector projects. There's also risks for students who choose to commute. What universities "should do" gets to be ridiculous. Individuals need to do their own research and take responsibility for their own decisions... education.

Students all had a choice. UW (and WLU?) have a first year guarantee, so anyone wanting to be in residence had that option. Anyone outside of first year probably had a chance to hear about how every year, the new buildings don't get built on time by developers. They want the newest building, it comes with risks, unfortunately.

This phenomenon happens in the development industry as a whole. There's no single (large) construction project that meets its original occupancy date - ever.

For first years, the safe bet is always residence.
I would expect these developments to catch 2nd year students more often, and it's entirely likely that they would have missed the news about these kinds of developments getting delayed. One of the developers in the area who claims to "never miss a closing date" is Fusion Homes, which includes their large Metalworks project in Guelph. As far as I know this holds true. Trade-off is though is risking a 11th hour rush job to meet this committment or having several incomplete items (while meeting minimum occupancy requirements under the Building Code) at occupancy. Love this idea for a thread by the way. I saw a story on CTV that there were a few incomplete Sage developments this year by IN8. Anyone know more info on this? I've also updated the list to include the developer of The Hub.
