876 sq m of retail space.

Are we certain that actually excludes Google? The current KW office already has two "restaurants" in it for Google employees, could number three could go in the retail space? Restaurants are normally allowed to occupy retail space in zoning rules, and I don't know if the zoning rules specifically require they be available to the public. They just wouldn't be able to put any desks there.

From an article earlier in the thread it indicates that Google leased 185,000 Sq feet (17,180 Sq meters) in the Breithaupt Block, this new office is proposing 27,125 Sq meters. Very exciting times for DTK.

I love it too!  I immediately thought of OCAD too

Only 712,875m2 more or 26 more projects like this and we will have enough space for Amazon HQ2.

Everyone move to the back of the bus and we all get home faster.

Anyone else think a small urban roundabout at the intersection of Moore and Breithaupt might make it more pedestrian friendly?

Ahhh ... so it's not necessarily for Google at all -- we may have jumped to that conclusion a bit too quickly!

I'll be curious to see how they transition to the existing neighbourhood. There will likely be lots of NIMBYism I'm thinking (depending on the scaling)

The most affected houses will be the "north" side of wellington. They have a parkette tapering to a three story which again tapers to the 12 story. I think they have definitely taken into account the neighbourhood. A lot of the houses that are directly affected are leased or are rented out. My guess is we won't see a large contingent nimbyism. When I talk to my neighbours here most are receptive.

That's great news!

I generally don't find roundabouts friendly for people on foot, and would not welcome (to say the least) one here.

It IS meant for Google, even if it's not specified on that article.

Is Google occupying the whole building??? That seems huge, but would be great

In particular, crossing Breithaupt St on the east side of Moore Ave is a bad time, and would work better with a small roundabout. The one at Union/Margaret is a good comparison in terms of size and function.
