There is still the other latino grocer on Ontario St. And at least three restaurants downtown selling pupusas!

America Latina Variety & Deli is actually moving to Victoria & Frederick, not walking distance from downtown unfortunately.

Ok sorry yes that's what I meant, just got the names mixed up! so yeah, sad they are moving so far.

I hope some day we can attract businesses like America Latina to Midtown. There is a nice spot on Margaret Street that seems like it would be ideal and they would be surrounded by a very supportive neighbourhood.

Totally! Midtown needs some independent businesses badly... it needs any businesses for that matter (beyond doctors offices).

For me personally, that's still walking distance. But the definition of "walking distance" depends very much on the person.

Victoria and Frederick is a pretty solid walk from downtown. Certainly not doing that one at lunch break. Smile

Hear, hear. I would make a point of supporting almost any kind of new food business that opened up in Midtown.

A bar is opening up in the old Enterprise spot, on Victoria right by Lancaster. I think I saw the Molly Bloom's logo (heavily tagged on all windows though).

Rana and Unity have announced their last days. Friday and Saturday respectively.

Neither have announced new downtown locations, though for purely selfish reasons I do hope Rana gets a spot in the new building or somewhere else nearby.

Golden Turtle's sign says they have not yet found a new location.

I've heard that Golden Turtle won't be reopening. (Second hand, take that as you will)

I'm a little surprised that none of the displaced businesses opted to move into the vacant storefronts across the street. Are the rents on those units just untenable? Perhaps city taxes on empty storefronts should be adjusted to make filling them a more attractive option.
