I took a peak inside on Saturday, they're going for the rough-hewn wood aesthetic favored by many of the Toronto yakitori/izakaya spots. Cautiously optimistic on this one.

Proposed signage as seen in the Heritage Kitchener agenda (page 50):

Everyone move to the back of the bus and we all get home faster.

Some good material in that Heritage Kitchener agenda, notably the reno/restoration proposals for the old Legion building at 48 Ontario N.

Sahar's Kitchen opened on Friday (June 1st). Menu looks promising, though not inexpensive (very similar to what Raja in Belmont Village charges). Hope to check out actual food in the near future.

I've yet to see anyone in there, I've been riding by it for a week and in the evening there are two or three staff members behind the counter and an empty restaurant...

… which eventually had the expected consequences. Prime Pita is now gone: the windows are papered over and the sign has been taken down. It's possible that the owner is switching to a different type of restaurant, though, as it doesn't look like the landlord locked them out.

Not open yet, but they are getting close. I hope the cooking will be as good as the interior looks!

The Grand Surf Lounge is a new bar coming to Ontario Street: https://www.facebook.com/The-Grand-Surf-...130472121/

And AOK Bar + Arcade is coming to the Budds space (basement?): https://www.facebook.com/pg/aokdtk/about/

Grand Surf - next door to Lookin' for Heroes?

AOK - if it is in the basement, it will be interesting to see how/whether they have modified access from the street - the stairwell in Budd's was in the centre of the floorspace.  Unless access is to be from Hall's Lane, which would be cool, but risky, istm.

A first dinner at Sahar's last night. They have a 30% discount for their opening (I don't know how long). It's clean but done on a tight budget for sure, this is definitely not a corporate restaurant outlet.

But the food was excellent, considerably better than the (now-departed) Amaya and Spice Tree. We had pakora, bhaji (eggplant) and paneer korma, along with naan and rice (and a complimentary dessert plate) The food was flavourful and the service was good. My initial feeling is that it's at least as good as Raja (albeit with a considerably more basic ambiance), will have to continue my investigations to determine the final ranking!

Hopefully they will find more customers as people become aware of it, as it's a few blocks away from the most-beaten path for the tech company employees.

Fire safety egress likely out the back at grade into the lane-way at the rear.

I wonder if they will have an entrance as well from the "alley".

Looks like Symposium at Erb/Erbsville is open now.

Wildfire in Waterloo has closed for good. THey're calling it a casualty of the LRT, but I have to say, steak houses have had a difficult time in that spot.

I was there once and it was good. But I just don't go out for steak very often. I'm skeptical of the LRT argument.
