You know, I often wonder if sometimes they come up with proposals they know the neighbours won't like in order to 'scale back' later on to appease people, and in the end, the developer gets what it wanted all along.  Huh

Based on what I saw in Ottawa over the years, I take it as a given that developers often ask for more that they actually expect to receive, in hopes of a lucrative "compromise".   Too cynical of me?

Not too cynical. I saw this in Ottawa a lot too. Seems like a compromise situation here too

There is a lot of neighbourhood uproar about this project again. If you are supportive please send to council your support for the project.

"Another deferral motion to consider further revisions to the application put forth by Coun. Zyg Janecki lost by a 6-4 vote, with councillors Yvonne, Fernandes, John Gazzola and Frank Etherington in support of the motion"  As per usual.  Yuo can almost bet on the same people opposing or trying to defer...

Indeed.

Are there any indications on who else might be looking to run in Ward 9 (effectively the downtown ward) against Etherington?

"Ummm I'd like to defer until after the election to whatever decision I make can't be held against me. Sound good?"

Safe to say that Etherington likely has a lock on Ward 9?

I was under the impression Etherington wasn't running.

Thanks! Bowman is new to this but Chapman lost to Etherington by a single vote last time. Her comments on her FB page (below) are not encouraging to me though -- does anyone know what she actually said at the meeting?

Quote:I spoke as a delegation to Kitchener City council yesterday evening about the Breithaupt Block 3 project. Many of the residents of the surrounding established neighbourhood walked away disappointed about the council decision to proceed with the project with only token input from selected residents at the site approval stage. This means that any further decision making will take place at the staff level.

I looked at Bowman's web page but I can't really see what her views are on development (or snow removal).

Etherington won by 1,411 over Tessa Jennison in 2014.

He won by 1 over Chapman in 2010.
