Farm Boy being acquired by Sobeys:

Key thing there is that Farm Boy will remain its own brand, and Sobeys will help expand it (even converting some existing Sobeys into FB).

Well, that's what they're saying now, anyway.  Here in Ottawa, I do over half of my grocery shopping at Farm Boy, so it's fingers crossed that Sobeys doesn't mess with a winning formula.

I'm really curious to see this play out. Will we see a lot of Sobeys products getting pushed into FB I wonder?

Or, happier thought, Farm Boy labels in Sobeys?

I would be pleasantly surprised, but I'll emphasize the surprised part.

I think Sobey's already tries to position themselves as a more premium option; I guess Farm Boy fits that even more so.

I suppose most people in this forum have been to a Farm Boy by now, but the best description (from U.S. media) I ever saw was that it's a cross between Whole Foods and Trader Joe's.  It is not out of line in terms of prices, although it is a bit higher than Loblaws or Sobeys.  I've never thought of Sobeys as "premium", however.

Sobeys is premium Freshco. Speaking of Freshco, the one on Weber/Franklin is 24 hours now.
