The city issued demolition permits for the sheds/storage buildings last month, and much of the eyesore that was the property's back yard has now been cleared out.
I don't see any updates on construction -- or even demolition of the Nougat building -- yet though.

Well there is a Stantec and ABA Architects billboard out front now.
Everyone move to the back of the bus and we all get home faster.

Has Nougat moved its bakery to another location?

The building is still there (not covered by the demolition permits to date) and appears to be in use.

They are still baking at the Queen St location (at least as of earlier this week).

(This post was last modified: 11-26-2017, 10:18 PM by Pheidippides.)
Zoning change recommended for approval (page 123).
Apparently they are going with a crash wall instead of a derailment berm to save space.
The neighbourhood feedback seemed largely constructive and supportive.
"The owner is requesting a Zone Change to permit the lands to be developed with a mixed-use building having a maximum height of 11 storeys near Queen Street South and the Iron Horse Trail, and using a crash-wall rather than a derailment berm. The development proposal includes 102 residential units, 2 commercial units fronting Queen Street, a 1 storey parking structure and the dedication of a parkette at the David Street frontage."
(The new Kitchener website is driving me up the wall. The links point to ome sort of image/cached version of the actual PDF so they take forever to load and you can't search them using keywords unless you click the make PDF button, but then for that generate PDF you can't provide direct links to and if you copy and paste from them when you paste it removes all of the spaces in the text).
Everyone move to the back of the bus and we all get home faster.

There are now signs up in front of the property for demolition. No construction fencing yet, though.

At this point I don't expect to see any real action on this site or SIXO this year. But neither one is eligible for the development charge exemption, so they are really not under any time pressure anyway.

The demolition billboard has been replaced by one with a render:

And apparently Stantec has been engaged. But this project hasn't made it to a council agenda yet, has it? (I have to think they will be asking for some things here beyond the standard zoning.)

I thought demolition permits had at least been issued.
