"Removing them" implies they are finished, and being changed after the fact.

It's possible the contractor has made an error that will be corrected, but in any case, even if they widened that, I'd still call it a bad design.

I think that the retaining wall was built before it was decided to put a trail there.

Parts of it were, in fact, you can see in the photo where the old retaining wall is because the stones are a different colour.

You can see that the retaining wall has been lowered, and new top stones have been placed. The original top stones begin just before the cup you see sitting on the retaining wall. It is clear in the foreground as well, that the retaining wall used to be higher at that point, and it was lowered.

Like I said, this shows that the wall has been modified INTO the state shown in the image, and is unlikely to be modified further unless the contractor has made errors as the top stones have already been placed.

Honestly, this isn't remotely surprising. As I've said, the region is notorious for this kind of bad engineering.
Our local urban planners & engineers of both tiers need to locked in a room until they watch every one of Chuck Marohn's Strong Town videos. Especially the "Confessions" series. And Dave Amos's City Beautiful.
Considering all the bad choices they make, I think they need to do more than watch YouTube videos. Half of them need to study urban planning again. Get out the textbooks.
The Farmer's Market trail between Northfield Dr and St Jacobs farmers market has been paved for about half a year but remains blocked off with fencing and signs that say "Trail Closed".  Maybe another half year before this perfectly usable trail is finally opened?

If you wanted unimpeded transport, why didn't you get a car?

I have a car but rarely use it. Trying to use public transit and cycle as much as possible.  Having the Farmer's Market trail open would be helpful.

Especially not when you make a comment that many would honestly say, in a forum that does not have tone of voice, body language or facial expressions to indicate something other than a flat rendering.

Bravado has generally been quite supportive of increased accommodations for cyclists in this thread. You seem suspicious of his motives, but it's not clear to me why.
Paving this morning at the Victoria/King end of the trail.
I guess that means they're keeping the very narrow entrance/exit.
Paved up to Joseph St. Can't really see if anything has happened across the tracks which I think is part of this project. No sign of work on the Joseph St or Stewart St MUTs yet.

I doubt they will do the other side until the parking garage ROW is free from construction traffic.

Disappointed if that is how that entrance at King St. is remaining but not really that surprised. Also shaking my head a bit at the light standards slowly creeping their way onto the MUT right of way. Questioning whether that was drawn in or some measurement failure.
