RE: General University Area Updates and Rumours - timc - 10-06-2016 Wow. How can a landlord just give six months notice and boot them out? RE: General University Area Updates and Rumours - Markster - 10-06-2016 They can do whatever they want within the terms of the lease. Manic Pizza was probably running on year-to-year leases, and the new landlord chose not to offer a renewal. RE: General University Area Updates and Rumours - Pheidippides - 10-16-2016 There is a render of a new building in the David Johnston Research + Technology park for the Centre for Sustainability Excellence in the latest edition of the Alternatives Journal. It is supposed to open in 2018 ,but I think there is a typo though. I think it supposed to say 115,000 sq ft, not 115: http://www.alternativesjournal.ca/sites/default/files/AJ42n3BelongingDigiFreeV2sm.pdf#page=27 RE: General University Area Updates and Rumours - BuildingScout - 10-16-2016 (10-16-2016, 11:27 AM)Pheidippides Wrote: There is a render of a new building in the David Johnston Research + Technology park for the Centre for Sustainability Excellence in the latest edition of the Alternatives Journal. The building has to be at least... three times bigger than this! RE: General University Area Updates and Rumours - Archetype - 10-17-2016 So with Maniac getting the boot... does that mean Phils will be leaving us soon too? RE: General University Area Updates and Rumours - nms - 10-28-2016 In case you missed it, the WCI/WLU feasibility study public information session was help on Thursday, October 27. RE: General University Area Updates and Rumours - Pheidippides - 12-02-2016 Northdale and IBM Smarter Cities update (page 42): http://calendar.waterloo.ca/Module/Calendar/Document/Download/6811c5b5-b603-4fa3-8e90-488697dfc493 "The City has purchased or has pending closures on four properties on Hickory Street. The purchases were funded from Capital Budget funds earmarked for park lands in Northdale via Report IPPW 2014-131." That Council confirm the actions of staff and an appointed trustee in acquiring the lands listed below: Address Price 78 Hickory Street West $500,000 80 Hickory Street West $436,000 109 Hickory Street (closing September 2017) $599,500 111 Hickory Street $475,000 RE: General University Area Updates and Rumours - urbd - 12-05-2016 (12-02-2016, 09:20 PM)Pheidippides Wrote: Northdale and IBM Smarter Cities update (page 42): Nice. I wonder if these 2 parkettes will be the usual green with benches and trees or if they will go with something a bit more innovative for them. RE: General University Area Updates and Rumours - tomh009 - 12-05-2016 Interestingly these are both corner lot combinations: 80 is at Hickory/Hemlock and 109 is at Hickory/Sunview. Is there some cunning plan at work here? RE: General University Area Updates and Rumours - rangersfan - 12-06-2016 A little more detail on the Northdale park. http://m.therecord.com/news-story/7004700-waterloo-will-spend-2-million-for-northdale-parkland RE: General University Area Updates and Rumours - rangersfan - 02-02-2017 Does anyone know if any tenants have moved into Factory Square aside from 'Matter of Taste' and 'Pure juice bar'? RE: General University Area Updates and Rumours - timc - 03-10-2017 I saw signs posted about a zone change application in front of those four houses on the south side of Columbia east of Albert. Does anyone know what is being planned there? RE: General University Area Updates and Rumours - rangersfan - 03-10-2017 On NKL Properties website they list a couple of projects that I don't think we have discussed here: http://nklproperties.com/our-projects/ 7 story 175 Weber St, Waterloo 25 story 36-42 University Ave, Waterloo RE: General University Area Updates and Rumours - Watdot - 03-10-2017 Cool. Can't see any of those facing strong opposition. Hopefully they interact well with the street fronts and look respectable. Such high standards for the University district.... I know. RE: General University Area Updates and Rumours - tomh009 - 03-10-2017 36-42 University Ave E: This a premium location for student housing, only about 100m from WLU. Currently the property has fairly recent low-rise student apartments in a 5-bedroom configuration. A 7-story mid-rise building will probably have at least 3-4x the occupancy of the current property. It appears that NKL believes there is still opportunity in student housing, but hopefully they'll choose a more flexible layout than the 5-bedroom units. 175 Weber St N: This is on the edge of older suburban residential and the commercial strip on Weber St. Definitely not a (pleasantly) walkable location at the moment, and not so close to LRT, but maybe this will start nudging Weber St development in a more urban direction. Probably student-oriented again but hopefully flexible for other uses as well. |
