I thought, as you did, that the barrels were empty and being used for flotation.

They could have built this off-site and moved it into place, or left the materials in a nearby parking lot or road, but they chose to block the MUT instead.

Speaking of blocking paths, the construction on UW campus just off Laurel Trail near University really narrowed the access to campus for a while and was totally unused for like a week. I moved some of the fences to improve access...

I saw that several trees along Seagram south of UW place have been recently cut down. Does anyone know why?

This is the place: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.4701676,-80.5331275,3a,75y,315.42h,99.25t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sU-aCK7gxYgrOOud9KcBnoQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

Might be ash trees? I don't know my trees very well...

RE: General University Area Updates and Rumours - KevinL - 10-21-2018

Those do look like ash, so the emerald borer is probably the culprit.

EVOLV2 coming to RT park. Too bad the design hasn't evolved. Another 3-story building next to an lrt stop (130,000sf). They should be going for LEED-ND instead of LEED platinum.

Is there a height limit in the R+T park? the low rise buildings leave a lot to be desired.

RE: General University Area Updates and Rumours - Pheidippides - 11-05-2018

I believe most of the RT park is UC-81 and has limit of 81m or 25 storeys.

This may have been posted before. I saw this on a bike ride through RT park. Not sure of the company that has this facility. Picture shows solar panels collecting energy for electric cars.

Often times parking requirements, not zoning actually limit density and height.

Noticed the other day that the SteelCraft building at 446 Albert St had a sold sign out front. Martin Simmons Architects has a project render that looks like an office building complex for 446 Albert St.

Also I believe I seen a sold sign on this vacant lot on Albert St as well.

Separate from zoning, UW has development guidelines which limit the height of buildings to 4-5 stories.

I did not know that. Seems like they really want that “suburban office park” esthetic!

RE: General University Area Updates and Rumours - nms - 12-17-2018

To be fair, in 2002 when the R+T Park was created, there was not yet the big push nor demand for taller buildings in the Region. The area's biggest employer in tech was RIM and their campus consisted of a series of buildings of 2 to 4 stories high. While the LRT was on the horizon, it was no further then that. Plans evolve and it would not surprise me if the slow build-out will allow the Park to evolve with changing tastes.
