Just south of St. Mary's hospital, or alternatively at the north end of Homer Watson Blvd. Definitely a highlight of my commute. Smile

As a kid, before Lakeside Park was developed, that "lake" was strictly forbidden territory for us. Surprisingly, I think we took my Mother's warnings seriously, as I have no memory of ever going there to "explore".

I wonder if there was concern about the water being polluted from Mt Trashmore with all the challenges they had capping it off.

I've ridden and jogged near that area dozens of times (my commute literally took me on the trail through the park between Greenbrook and Queen's Blvd last summer as I routed around roundabout construction) and never went far enough to actually look at the lake itself. I'll definitely be remedying that oversight in the future!

We were told to not use the pond or go through the property as it was known to not be safe around the edges and the lake was said to be very deep or bottomless. Back in the 60's a young lad at our elementary school drowned in that pond taking a shortcut home rather than going down Stirling and around the pond to the Hospital and Queen Street. It was undeveloped and a bog pond and did't look at all like it does today. The locals spoke about the water being a bottomless lake (alleged quicksand like bottom). They never found his body after searching for a long time and the body was never recovered.
