Trying to find other examples like this online, not having much lock. The 'slenderness ratio' is off on this building is what you are saying correct? Up until about the mid 1990s this was quite common, especially in residential projects. This picture here shows how many exist just in downtown Kitchener, but they're all over the region/country. Most were built from the 1970s-1980s, but then there was a gradual shift to begin designing buildings to be a lot slender and taller and we saw less and less of them constructed. RE: Circa 1877 - Brick Brewery Redevelopment | 20fl | U/C - Momo26 - 11-13-2019 Ah fair enough, I had thought of many 'wide buildings' that are of course not tall, but in my mind was thinking massively wide buildings with equal height (more or less). More box then rectangular prism on it's side! RE: Circa 1877 - Brick Brewery Redevelopment | 20fl | U/C - Spokes - 11-14-2019 When they're wide they can only be so tall because of density guidelines RE: Circa 1877 - Brick Brewery Redevelopment | 20fl | U/C - Momo26 - 02-03-2020 Any recent pics? I was just in the area but didn't snap a pic in time. Lots of the dark glass in now... RE: Circa 1877 - Brick Brewery Redevelopment | 20fl | U/C - ac3r - 02-24-2020 Yeah I'm curious how this is looking. Hopefully a little less imposing? RE: Circa 1877 - Brick Brewery Redevelopment | 20fl | U/C - Momo26 - 02-24-2020 I'm perplexed by the numerous, seemingly small windows. I remember seeing that in floor plans and inquiring on the dimensions. It only seems on set/block of units has floor to ceiling windows (at least that's how the current glass installed looks). Majority of others seem to have 2 to 3 windows each (maybe one is a door although from ground level does not look big enough). Curious to hear other people's thoughts... I looks to me like they are painting the concrete black. RE: Circa 1877 - Brick Brewery Redevelopment | 20fl | U/C - Bjays93 - 02-25-2020 Hopefully it looks better in person and/or painted cuz it looks like a concrete monolith rn RE: Circa 1877 - Brick Brewery Redevelopment | 20fl | U/C - westwardloo - 02-25-2020 (02-25-2020, 09:55 PM)Bjays93 Wrote: Hopefully it looks better in person and/or painted cuz it looks like a concrete monolith rnAgreed, I think once it is painted it will look better, but I wish they had commissioned a big art piece for the parking garage levels. A couple indentented concrete panels is not enough. RE: Circa 1877 - Brick Brewery Redevelopment | 20fl | U/C - Momo26 - 02-26-2020 Is it too late to paint a big art piece on it? Could easily spin the narrative: In collaboration with xyz Big name artist' On a similar note, I saw some amazing pieces of art in the laneways just west of Spidina, North of Kensington. They've done a good job. RE: Circa 1877 - Brick Brewery Redevelopment | 20fl | U/C - embe - 02-26-2020 (02-25-2020, 09:18 PM)westwardloo Wrote: Sorry about the rotation stupid phone. I suppose its possible things may have changed since then though. |
