I mean it is better than a old car dealership, but I agree it is a bit boring. Reminds me of the building on benton near the Aud. Which turned out to be a decent mid-rise. I would have preferred another colour other than black and white precast. The building looks too close to Weber and Franklin too, I would prefer a bit bigger of a set back with a large sidewalk not directly beside a two busy roads. I would not feel safe walking on a sidewalk right beside traffic on Weber. This should be a minimum requirement from the city to approve this. Also would be be nice to plant some trees lining the street front. RE: 1157, 1175 Weber Street East | 17 + 19 fl | Proposed - ac3r - 03-18-2025 Black and white is just the zeitgeist of human civilization at the moment. Depressing, cold and inhuman. While it wasn't a great design before, this is certainly a downgrade. It basically looks like 85% of new apartment/condo buildings across the entire province. And 50 years from now, we can romanticize this urban form too, provided they are still standing. :-) RE: 1157, 1175 Weber Street East | 17 + 19 fl | Proposed - ac3r - 03-18-2025 The school of late stage disposable capitalist architecture and design! RE: 1157, 1175 Weber Street East | 17 + 19 fl | Proposed - Square - 06-29-2025 This development now has been boarded up and the old Volkswagen building demolished. RE: 1157, 1175 Weber Street East | 17 + 19 fl | Proposed - mastermind - 07-25-2025 It looks ready for construction to begin, with a wood fence around entire site and demolition complete. Any guesses on when? RE: 1157, 1175 Weber Street East | 17 + 19 fl | Proposed - Kodra24 - 07-31-2025 Great to hear some developments are still proceeding RE: 1157, 1175 Weber Street East | 17 + 19 fl | Proposed - ZEBuilder - 12-08-2025 Zehr is moving forward with this, as mentioned above demolition was completed earlier in the year. A conditional foundation permit was issued last week. With Balance of Construction and the Parking Garage permit under review. Civil works for the site will be completed by LKHC (Lee Kieswetter Heavy Civil), Lee is one of the sons of the current owner of Kieswetter Excavating, after working for Kieswetter for numerous years he decided to go out on his own and make LKHC. Zehr is calling this Stride Franklin, it will have the municipal address of 25 Franklin St N. RE: 1157, 1175 Weber Street East | 17 + 19 fl | Proposed - ac3r - 01-26-2026 Zehr has some construction fencing around this with a coming soon sign. They're apparently rentals as well. RE: Stride | 17 + 19 fl | Proposed - mastermind - 01-28-2026 The tower crane is up too. |
