I understand that some might be suffering, but I think it's important that the power of the state is used to reinforce my own property value at the expense of anyone else. Surely you understand!

Haha. The frustration level is palpable.

This rendering website shows two I haven’t seen yet. Sorry if they have been posted. One of Westmount square, which I thought was a dead proposal but shows a 39 fl tower. And the second image below is 10 Fredrick, right behind DTK - 29fl

Westmount Square is still happening just very slowly, Killam proceeded with the first building but wanted to wait the market out to see how things changed from Covid, more office, more retail, less of each etc, they did the first building as it was allowed by zoning if I'm remembering correctly it was a lot simpler than doing the entire site at the time. I know they still have plans in the works, they have had conversations with the city since they put a pause on it but last I heard it was just a typically will we need a ZBA/OPA type of conversation so it's slowly working it's way through.

The building behind Duke Tower where that model is is definitely just a concept and nothing more (there was a concept in Growing Together for that site), the property was being marketed and the Region bough it so they definitely aren't building something like that any time soon, it was most likely just marketing material for the sale.

As part of their construction process, the developer tore down housing on Dietz.  If they failed to replace the housing in a given period of time, they would have been on the hook for fines with the City.

The render of 84 Frederick is most definitely not a project anymore, if it ever was. The Region bought the building from the YWCA, they intend to spend a ton of money to maintain the existing building and turn it into temporary shelter space, eventually they will redevelop it into rental units for Waterloo Housing. Probably decades away though.

Maybe in decades that old service station building on the corner will be incorporated into the larger site.  Even an extension of the existing shelter would be an improvement.

DH Rendering just uses their website to show off all their portfolio of rendering jobs they've been hired for, so a lot of what you see there has changed or never came to fruition.

I'm too lazy to look up the address to find a corresponding thread, but I noticed that vacant plot of land beside the midtown McDonald's has signs on the fencing for a project by Crescent Homes.

It might be 624 King St W. There's nothing on their website about that property yet.

CBRE has for sale signs up on half the block of Cedar between King and Duke.

It's actually bigger than that. It also included multiple properties on Madison as well. https://www.cbre.ca/properties/commercial-space/details/CA-Plus-394103/23-31-cedar-street-north-18-30-madison-avenue-north-kitchener-ontario-canada

I know we need housing, but I love the buildings on Cedar. I'll miss those if they end up getting redeveloped.

RE: General Urban Kitchener Updates and Rumours - ac3r - 10-31-2024

A shame it will probably get turned into another horrible Vive development where everything is white/grey/black, made of horrible precast and every other unit rented out to kids from India.

Interestingly, it seems to be only the one unit in that row that stretches to Duke St.

It also seems to include the parking area for those rowhouses which would be unfortunate for those owners.

I think this is basically what Reitzel owns (and presumably what they are selling. A bit of an odd shape as they clearly have not been able to buy everything.

Sadly, no heritage designation for the rowhouses on Cedar.
