RE: Duke Tower Kitchener | 39 fl | U/C - Momo26 - 02-12-2020 Yah I don't think the change in form for those top floors is as pronounced as Landmark. Let's see the materials used, sure. Also, maybe it would have been wise for the city to mandate an architectural review - not trying to put up extra obstacles and deter developers, but the things should add to the beauty of the city for sure. (On a side, my hope was for the Station Park network of buildings, especially with original renderings, but they toned it the heck down). City Center (pt II) - Young Condos, should look decent, as should the Garment St. combo including the GloveBox. RE: Duke Tower Kitchener | 39 fl | U/C - jamincan - 02-12-2020 Are there examples of places where architectural reviews actually result in nice buildings? My impression is that they typically usually just end up preserving kitsch. RE: Duke Tower Kitchener | 39 fl | U/C - Momo26 - 02-12-2020 kitsch /kiCH/ noun art, objects, or design considered to be in poor taste because of excessive garishness or sentimentality, but sometimes appreciated in an ironic or knowing way. "the lava lamp is an example of sixties kitsch" RE: Duke Tower Kitchener | 39 fl | U/C - westwardloo - 02-12-2020 (02-12-2020, 03:03 PM)jamincan Wrote: Are there examples of places where architectural reviews actually result in nice buildings? Vancouver house, the butterfly, 1075 nelson, 1500 Alberni, 1440 Alberni to name a few. All different in terms of there design. I don't think it would be a bad thing for the region to form an architectural review panel to give input into the design of our skylines. Obviously i think it would require amalgamation so there was one vision for how our cities urban form is built up. If Kitchener created a review process developers would just build in waterloo or cambridge where it would be easy to build a tower made of EIFS or other cheap looking materials. I'm OK with Waterloo getting all the kitsch.
RE: Duke Tower Kitchener | 39 fl | U/C - kitborn - 02-15-2020 I guess I'll lose some of my view. RE: Duke Tower Kitchener | 39 fl | U/C - Spokes - 02-17-2020 Cool perspective! Thanks for posting RE: Duke Tower Kitchener | 39 fl | U/C - jgsz - 02-22-2020 More concrete today for the ramp going up to parking. RE: Duke Tower Kitchener | 39 fl | U/C - Square - 02-22-2020 Thank you for the photos. Wonder why they are leaving the back of the parking open, while they build the rest of the parking? Also how many floors are they up to now? RE: Duke Tower Kitchener | 39 fl | U/C - ZEBuilder - 02-22-2020 (02-22-2020, 02:46 PM)Square Wrote: Thank you for the photos. RE: Duke Tower Kitchener | 39 fl | U/C - tomh009 - 02-26-2020 Some views from the ground level. RE: Duke Tower Kitchener | 39 fl | U/C - Square - 02-26-2020 Thank you Tom for the photos. In the second photo, I guess I answered my own question about why they are leaving the back unfinished. To store all the equipment, stairs and other stuff, I guess. RE: Duke Tower Kitchener | 39 fl | U/C - jgsz - 03-07-2020 March 7, 2020 A handful of workers were on site this morning preparing for another concrete pour on Monday. (Notice that at Market Square, Conestoga College finally has noticeable sign -- C.) RE: Duke Tower Kitchener | 39 fl | U/C - jgsz - 03-19-2020 3-19-20 Update. It appears the podium on the Duke Street side is not getting higher. The ramp and the parking garage is getting another floor. RE: Duke Tower Kitchener | 39 fl | U/C - Square - 03-20-2020 That concrete pumper gotta be raised soon, no? |
