I'm curious about this also. Was in the area and saw them working. I dont think Charlie West people need the space.

Are we getting a Grand artistic centre for the performing arts in the form of an award winning state of the art structure?

Drive through Covid test centre....not bad ....

My money is on homeless shelter.

Given the property's current use and location it's not really a stretch. Pandemic and all it is kind of a no brainer and the Concordia club-esque structure makes it seem likely.

I think I may call GRT tomorrow and just ask ...

Took another photo now that the frame is assembled. The positioning of the two outer spans right in line with bus lanes and wide enough for a car really makes me think Covid testing centre.

Turns out GRT customer service doesn't know what it is either. And here I thought I was being so clever ....

Drive-thru COVID centre makes sense. And they’d keep it up as a drive-thru vaccine centre, whenever we get it.

Drive-thru restaurant service?

Wouldn’t be a horrible idea, it would be good for those businesses downtown Kitchener. I’ll get that macaroni from Grand Trunk Saloon....nom nom nom.

I mean, I agree it's a horrible idea (last thing DTK needs is a "drive through"), although it could be supplied by DTK businesses.

I do wish more pandemic era businesses converted to servicing at their door/window so that there is less need to actually go into businesses.  I realize it's a bit of work to achieve this, but I'd personally feel better.

If they've signed up with Doordash/UberEats I have to imagine they can be takeout-ready.

I have to admit I'd be a bit nervous about the quality of a homeless shelter they could set up there, especially with a temporary structure like that. I think the current hotel based shelters make far more sense, and I'd hope the city will be continuing that.

A Covid test center makes way more sense to me. Getting to the Glasgow test center on foot (sick people aren't taking transit!) from downtown, in the summer heat, with a sick person was a terrible experience. And given that a higher proportion of people living downtown don't have cars, I think the lack of a downtown or downtown adjacent testing center is a problem.

A testing site does make sense. It's a property with driveways all the way through, owned by the Region, with an attached structure with washrooms and heat for the staff. Win/win/win.

Bonus - another reason for folks to come downtown ... Wink

That was my take, and if they were doing a homeless shelter, the tent itself isn't much larger than the actual building that's heated right next to it...smaller if you include all the hallways.

A test centre would make some sense, but I'm not sure how big a lineup you'd be expecting, the terminal space isn't that big you probably couldn't fit more than 50 cars in line, I wouldn't really be looking forward to huge lineups of cars blocking our driveway (hence why I might have an interest in what goes in here). It would also end up blocking the GO Bus. But there is also a big need for a testing facility in an accessible location. I find the Glasgow location easy to get too, but that's only because I bike, by walking or transit, it's pretty inconvenient.

Honestly, I'd just like to know.
