Request: A Favicon - kalis0490 - 06-26-2019

I think that WRConnected needs a Favicon. I think that something similar to the twitter logo should be nice. What are your thoughts on this?

RE: Request: A Favicon - Spokes - 06-26-2019

We used to have one, when we migrated themes it got dropped and I just haven't added it back yet. I'll work on it.

Thanks for reminding me though.

It's not there? Really? Then where is my Edge picking up the icon from?

And indeed it's there; just check this URL to see for yourself:
http://www.waterlooregionconnected.com/favicon.ico

Looks like Spokes got it fixed!

RE: Request: A Favicon - Spokes - 06-26-2019

Hmm. It's hit or miss then. My chromebook at work doesn't see it

Browser caching is weird sometimes too. It might be helpful to go directly to the favicon using Tom's link and click the refresh button while holding the CTRL key - in most browsers this forces a load directly from the source instead of the cache.

RE: Request: A Favicon - megabytephreak - 06-26-2019

The HTML indicates that the Favicon should be found at http://www.waterlooregionconnected.com//images/focus/favicon.png instead of http://www.waterlooregionconnected.com/favicon.ico where it actually is.
This is probably causing varying behaviour between browsers since there is a favicon at the default location, but not at the specified one.

Thanks! So Chrome looks where it's told to and then gives up since there is nothing there. Edge decides to check the default location as well, and finds one there.

That makes sense, and explains why things changed with the new theme.  Thanks!

I'll have to convert the favicon.ico to a png, but that shouldn't be too hard.

If it's possible to update the theme so that it's looking for the favicon.ico file, that would be more compliant with standards. Not super important, but if both are similar amounts of work, that is the more "correct" way to fix it.

RE: Request: A Favicon - megabytephreak - 06-27-2019

Actually, Firefox tells me that favicon.ico is already a PNG, just with a .ico extension. So it should be as simple as copying it.

And.....success! (for me that is....feedback please)

RE: Request: A Favicon - ijmorlan - 06-27-2019

I suggest this:

https://realfavicongenerator.net

It takes a single image and generates all the various variations of the favicon for optimal display on many platforms and browsers.

Working for me! (On Chrome)
