A private high school coming to downtown:
  • Building permit 20-104761 MS
  • 137 QUEEN ST S
  • Non-Residential Alteration
  • Permit is for change of use for existing St. Paul's Lutheran Church to be partial converted to Stanford Academy private high school

Will this be a second campus for them in Kitchener, or are they closing the school in Stanley Park?

RE: General Urban Kitchener Updates and Rumours - tomh009 - 02-06-2020

That's an excellent question!

RE: General Urban Kitchener Updates and Rumours - panamaniac - 02-06-2020

It will be the second private school in DTK, Blyth Academy being the other. I take it that Stanford Academy is mainly directed at international students from China?

How much is tuition generally?

RE: General Urban Kitchener Updates and Rumours - panamaniac - 02-07-2020

I think Blythe is under $20G per year. According to their website, Stanford is more like $24G.

I've lived in Kitchener my entire life, competed in sports against them as a student and just realized yesterday that Rockway school is not public and charges ~$17,000 a year for tuition.

Umm, Rockway Mennonite Collegiate.

17k for elementary per year? I wonder if the level of education is THAT much more than public. I guess the much smaller class sizes, amenities, special field trips? make it worthwhile for those select few that can afford to put their kid(s) in there

Rockway is a high school.

Rockway Mennonite Collegiate is not the same as Rockway Public School.
2020-2021 Tuition:
  • Domestic tuition – $16,860

  • Mennonite (MCEC Church participant) Tuition – $11,460

I went to Rockway, and that seems like a significant tuition jump from when I was a student there.

It seems to be about the same as the jump in university tuitions for my time there until now.

I think it was this thread the debate started of Kitchener (Waterloo) having a lack of things to do etc and some noted it's more along the lines of a lack of awareness. Example, I JUST learned Jim Gaffigan is at the Center in the Square for one night only tonight. Only because I was curious what was happening there (trying to figure out something to do tonight). Tickets 99% sold out.
