Same company but as far as I know it's still the Coach Canada brand. And that bus is why GO is nonexistent; the private company got the route instead.

Waterloo also has two universities and lots of tech and insurance companies with offices in Waterloo. Cambridge not so much.

It's not just the region; the Sobeys in Peterborough stopped being 24 hours while I lived up there. Cambridge used to have a 24-hour A&P/Metro, but it closed a year or two ago.

They might also be considering the prospect of widening. I imagine a new Guelph Sub bridge will be needed when double-tracking or high-speed rail is introduced (whichever occurs first).

London (the big London) doesn't seem to be hurting too much from not amalgamating 100%. Westminster, Chelsea, Southwark, and dozens of other boroughs still have some degree of independence.

I think it's more the thought of merger than rebranding for people in Waterloo - though using that name would make the merger go down easier for some. Cambridge would be a harder sell - not that anyon...
