And I think that calling people by their wrong name is childish, guffster!

Gave you a thumbs up for that.

My first "real" job was for the federal government, and people (including some supervisors) would make fun of my first name because of Jeff Dahmer. I mean, that's what they literally called me. (my last name doesn't sound anything like Dahmer). I survived. I think there are a lot worse things than messing humorously with your name.

If my last name was close to Hogwart, I would just say "yes, I'm a wizard, just watch what I can do..." Back to that federal job, when a supervisor had called my Jeffrey Dahmer, I responded "Yeah, I don't think you'd taste good, you're kind of old and too fatty, my fridge is too small to fit you..." and I walked away.

Thanks Smile

That fridge comeback is masterful.

I was actually a bit worried somebody wouldn’t understand what I was doing and would accuse me of hypocrisy.

I will add that I’m not quite as uncompromisingly anti-nickname as my comment may have made it sound. I think that a nickname that is actually funny and is used sparingly can be a way of bringing humour into a serious discussion. I also think it depends on context and who is the butt of the joke. But the casual use of a nickname just feels wrong to me.

As an example of one I think is entirely appropriate, “Agolf Twittler” for the former president is hilarious and appropriate in my view, mostly because it both pokes fun in a trivial way at some of his characteristics while also hinting at the fascist reality of his proclivities, without building him up into more of a supervillain than he really is.

Wastewater data is down 70-80% from the peak in Kitchener and Waterloo, and down about 50% in Cambridge.

oh man, that's a linear axis on the left and a log axis on the right, wtf!?

"decline has slowed", and bumped a bit up in Waterloo (but it's supposed to be noisy). Nevertheless, the raw number has dropped from 600 to 61 and then up to 64 (which is a 9x reduction) for Waterloo. However it was at 3 before the omicron bump. So I think it's still not great.

That's right, the right-hand axis is log10.

And agree that the absolute levels are still not low, but the trendlines look good (and the hospital population is also trending down). And if you combine that with the reduced average severity of Omicron, things are certainly not as grim as they were.

Maybe we'll get out of this yet.
