Well, I did write to my regional councillors about it (and adding a PS about what they said about the emergency bike lanes). Got one response hoping that we get delegations speaking in support of it as well.

The meeting agendas are out now. This will be in the Committee of the Whole meeting, rather than the regional council meeting. Starts at 9 AM, this looks to be one of the first agenda topics.

Thanks. I will adjust comments accordingly!

Here's the most recent update in the Record about today's Regional council meeting that decided to declare 555 Beechwood Dr as surplus land, with an amended motion from Councillor Strickland which resulted in unanimous support. https://www.therecord.com/news/waterloo-...oject.html

Thanks to everyone who took the time to contact their councillors and/or speak as a delegation.

I have to say that this concerns me somewhat "Strickland was in favour of going ahead with the project, but he said it was important to make it “more palatable” for the neighbourhood." but overall it seemed like there was a good amount of support for this project.

I think he wanted tighter design guidelines for the project, which will delay the RFP by a month.

A sop to the neighbourhood, I think. But hopefully no negative impacts beyond the one-month delay.

One hopes that it doesn’t lead to increased costs.

The presentation by YIMBY Waterloo Region was very effective -- kudos for that.

Thanks! I think having a number (and variety) of delegations speaking in favour of this was very helpful too!

Does anyone from YIMBY have a house backing into this property? I’m not arguing against this development at all. When buy a house they talk about Location, location, location. If you buy a house backing into an empty lot you can’t assume that it will never be developed. .

That's right. The property was rezoned for medium-density residential in 2005, and a lot of the complaints in the meeting related to this rezoning -- which, of course, is a city responsibility rather than a regional one.

Here's another article that discusses a couple of Regional Council's decisions regarding affordable housing. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/kitchener...-PkcLfr6Rs

Hate to break it to you guys, but this is Waterloo — it isn’t going to happen. Cambridge and Kitchener will have to pick up the slack, again.

... except that the zoning is OK, so no city council approval is required! Big Grin

Indeed, it’s pretty much a done deal, no?
