If you're interested in speaking to local politicians about needing bollards to protect already-narrow islands in high-speed roadways, you can take a look at the Laurel Trail at Weber island; as of last night, someone heading southbound plowed over it at took out the northernmost sign on it. Thankfully no sign of any poor souls being on the island at that time.
That thing is narrow enough that someone could easily straddle it.
