I'm kind of wondering if this is the San Francisco Panini place from farther east on King. From the name, you'd think "isn't this just Quick sandwiches?", but their menu has a lot more than that, and quite good, a nice Italian addition to 271 West.

I'm talking about this one:

Good to see that empty space finally being used again!  Is this an expansion for La Cucina in Guelph, I wonder?

It is not, no.  But I am looking forward to their opening to see a second wood-fired oven (thin-crust) pizza option in DTK; hopefully their pizzas will be all that I am dreaming of. Wink

Unfortunately breadheads is only open M-F, 9-3. I'm glad to see more options in DTK, hopefully with longer hours.

Exactly. This is the #1 reason I'm happy to see a second one arrive. I expect they will also a different selection of pizza toppings.

Have you seen any indication when that opening is? I walk past most days and haven't seen any signage.

La Cucina's page suggests they're open.  Has anyone eaten there?

They are open. A friend went, and they said that it was okay. The pasta was compared unfavourably to Belmont Bistro, but Belmost Bistro is distinctly different price point.

I went today. I had Pizza Margherita. It's by far the most authentic Italian pizza in the region. It's been a while since I've been to Bread Heads, so I can't say that I prefer La Cucina's offering, but it's certainly more authentic (which isn't necessarily what Bread Heads is going for).

As someone who isn't a pizza connoisseur, where does Famoso's stack in terms of authenticity?

My list of 'authenticity' is like thus:

1. Buon Gusto (In Guelph)
.
.
.
2. Famosos
3. Breadheads

Buon Gusto is so far ahead of the game that I need to include them in this list. If La Cucina manages to beat famosos I'd be very pleased but I don't expect them to come close to Buon Gusto.
